URGENT question regarding old PR status

If i held a PR visa over 10 years ago but then left Canada and never met the residency requirements, i obviously would lose my status but i have never had this formally assessed or determined.I have now reapplied from scratch for a new PR visa which should be granted shortly.

Any advise on what i should do, should i have other PR status assessed prior to new visa granted.
What happens when i apply for my PR card on new visa application, will they pick up the old PR visa.
Any advise would be graetly appreciated.

CIC will not grant you PR if you are already a PR. Why do you assume that the new application will be "granted shortly"? From your previous post, it seems that you also applied for a study visa. Was it granted?

Hi there

no i have applied through the federal skilled worker program, i have not formally lost PR status but have been outside of canada for over 10 years and will obviosly not meet residency requirements. My understanding is that i need to formally have my residency status assessed and then cancelled before the new PR visa is granted. All my immigration documents clearly indicate i lived in canada in the past and held PR status.Quite clearly the visa office has not paid much attention.

We had a change of plans and decided to proceed with a federal immigration process, as pointed out i had immigrated to canada in the past and held a PR card which is now expired and i never formally "lost" my status

OK, that clears that up.

The bottom line in that case is that you are probably still a Canadian permanent resident.
If this is true, your new PR application will stall until you formally relinquish the previous PR status.
You didn't answer why you think that this new application will be "granted shortly".

As We were requested to proceed with medicals and they have not said a word about my former PR status,I think I will email them with a reminder and request what to do about my former status. They obviously have not picked it up for whatever reason as all my history is clearly indicated in schedule A

What would happen if they grant new PR visa after I arrive in Canada?
How would old status affect new PR carc application

I really don't know. They should never be in a position to issue a PR to an existing PR.
Do you know if the current application has the same UCI number for you as the previous one?

If your UCI number has changed, they think that you are two different people, and that will cause problems... It would be a reason for the confusion however.

They are completely different applications with different numbers, quite clearly they are proceeding without any issues.I will email them and do what is necessary prior to the new grant to avoid any problems.

I am interested to know what would happen if they grant without me relinquishing former status, what would happen on arrival or request for first new PR card. The regulations say they can grant a new PRV visa during processing once applicant has waived and consented to losing previous status.

The UCI is unique to you and should be the same in all your dealing with CIC over the years.

My wife is main applicant not me and my last application was 10 years ago. There is no question on any federal immigration forms that ask if you have previously applied to canada.A new UCI is issued

How about question 3 in the Personal Details section of IMM 0008?
