Hello All

I am working in Canada with PGWP and will apply for PR under CEC in Jan 2013 (as Dec'12 I finish work experience requirement). Dec' 12 I am getting married in India also. My spouse (would be) works in USA with H1 visa.

I have thoroughly read the website information yet find myself uncertain, and this forum has always been great help. So I am asking here:

Can I apply for PR for both myself (as principal applicant) and my spouse under CEC (though he lives and works in USA, studied also in USA, no education or work in Canada)? Also is it advisable to apply within Canada or should we both apply outside Canada (USA) in this given situation?

Will it take longer when I apply for both as compared to myself applying alone?

Also will I be able to leave Canada while PR application is in process, what if I decide to move to USA (just in case)?
Please let me know. Thanks a lot

If you are married, you have to list your spouse on the application, even if he is not going to accompany you to Canada. Unless you prefer to be processed through NVDO, you're going to be processed through CPP-O, since that's the VO that handles files if you are in Canada or the US.

It won't take appreciably longer. There's no requirement with CEC that you remain in Canada.

I will list my spouse in application for sure. My querry is can we both apply for PR (for myself as well as PR for my spouse) in the same application under CEC (with myself as principal applicant and spouse as dependent)?

Yes, you can. All the best

Hi,

I am in a similar situation.I am applying for a PR under CEC and going to add her as dependant in my PR application form.

Should my dependant also take IELTS exam ?

Thanks.

Nope.

I beg to differ, but im sure your spouse does have to give the IELTS in india or wherever he/she is
The language test isnt just for the principal applicant.

Winterfox, please brush up your knowledge on CEC.
Advisable to avoid misleading if not sure on the topic. It might lead the applicant to a different route altogether.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5609ETOC.asp#5609E2

Each applicant must demonstrate that they meet the language requirements according to their occupational skill level by providing evidence of their proficiency in English or French in all four of the following abilities: speaking, reading, listening and writing.

All applications must be accompanied by the results of the principal applicant’s English or French language proficiency assessment from a testing agency designated by CIC for the CEC in order to be considered eligible for processing.

Sorry Andy your right,
My spouse had to give ielts cos she wanted to come here do some studies. Maybe thats why CIC said she needs to give her Ielts.
