I live in Montreal and I am leaving for Mexico on vacation on March 3rd, my PR card had expired quite some time ago and due to my procrastination I only got around to applying for a replacement in October 2011.

My PR card renewal was approved on February 7th and according to the CIC website I should receive notification within 4 weeks of that date. I called and spoke with a rep at the CIC call center who advised me that generally it takes 30 days from the approval date for the cards to be printed. He had me send my proof of travel to them, they sent me a reply stating that they notified the CPC in Sydney.

Do you think i'll be able to get the card before my trip?

When you say opened, do you mean when you requested the urgent processing? If so what was the status of the request at that time?

Mines already approved so I'm hoping they can print it faster and i can pick it up sometime in the next 2 weeks.

Still no news on my card.

I sent an email to my MP last week to see if he can speed things up.

One question I have is this, I'm a British citizen with a UK passport, if I purchase a plane ticket for the UK for shortly after my return and can show this to airline and the immigration officer, will they allow me back into the country?

Obviously my plan would be to then cancel the flight after they let me back in. Would having my passport stamped as a visitor effect my PR status?

Not sure if my MP played any part in it, but my PR card is now waiting for me to pick it up. So all in all it took less than 2 weeks for my card to be printed and shipped.
