Visa Office......
los angeles
I’m a US Asylee with a well paying job in a tech company in the states, but my country of origin is Iran, I have applied for a visitor visa, to see my friend in Toronto, but has been stuck in this process since Feb 16th, as an asylee my travel doc is valid for only a year and I don’t have much time left. It’s expiring in July,

Knowing that and the fact that my background checks started on Apr 17th. What are the chances that I can still get my visa in time.

Also do walk ins to Los Angeles or New York vac, get their applications processed faster?

Thanks

Given you have asylee status in the US, your visitor visa to Canada will most likely be refused.

No - there are no walk-ins.

Why will it be refused? I’m just going for a visit

Given your status in the US, it is more difficult for you to prove strong ties and demonstrate you have no plans to remain in Canada long term. Given the climate in the US, Canada is seeing a significant increase in the number of US-based asylum seekers and asylees attempting to claim refugee status in Canada.

There is certainly some chance of approval - however unfortunately a higher chance of refusal.

There's really nothing you can do but wait and hope for the best. Good luck - hope it works out.

I’m married and my wife is a US citizen also I have a job here, what I really want to know is how long am I supposed to wait for a decision for my background check

Background checks can take from a few weeks to even more than one year depending on the specifics of the application
