Urgent! Please help - future spouse in Iran!

I am a Canadian citizen and I am engaged to an Afghan refugee residing in Tehran, Iran.

I was planing to go to Iran in a 3 months time to get married and then start his sponsorship application... But the Canadian Embassy in Tehran was closed yesterday!

How am I supposed to sponsor him now?
Since he is an Afghan refugee, he needs a visa to go to Turkey (as advised), and that is almost impossible. Plus, he does not know the language or the place.....
And of course, Afghanistan is not a safe place to return to at the moment.

I'm sure I'm not the only person in such situation...There must be a way to get around this?

Hi,
from my understanding first thing you do after getting married is to fill up the application for "out Land sponsorship" which generally takes half the time of "inland sponsorship" providing its accepted and you have complete supporting documents.
if there is a Canadian embassy in Iran from my understanding you shouldn't have a problem because I don't see why the Canadian embassy in iran should have any less authority than turkey. you mentioned yesterday the embassy was closed! Friday is a holiday in Mideast so maybe you should try to go in a regular business day. either way you have to fill up the "out land spouse sponsorship" your spouse should have a valid passport or travel document from the country of origin to be able to travel to Canada when the Canadian embassy grants him the visa if and when the process of your application is complete with supporting documents, information and accepted by CIC. if your country officially is not providing a passport or travel documents (im not sure if your country does or not) then a temporary travel document can be obtained which I believe is a red cross one if i'm not mistaking.

i'm giving you the limited information that I have. so you probably you need to do your own research and double check to find out what you need. if you aren't sure you should call CIC and find out what you need. a lawyer would be good too if you have the resources for it. but I think if you Call CIC they should be able to answer your questions specifically.

good luck

She means the Canadian embassy in Iran has been closed indefinitely! http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/iran/index.aspx?view=d
I think you still need to send it to Turkey. There is no reason that your spouse will actually need to go there. If they ask for an interview, I'm sure they would come to some arrangement (ie phone call). Also, you will be mailing your entire application to Mississauga, not Turkey.

There is a FAQ page for Iranians on the Ankara embassy website as well, which might help: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/turkey-turquie/visas/iran.aspx?lang=eng&view=d

Good luck!

hi,

my apologies. you are right I didn't know its closed for good. I just read it on the news yesterday. so I guess the next option is Turkey. I think CIC should have an alternative.

good luck.
