Hi, I have oath ceremony comingup. I have an emergency situation to travel to India, so I am planning to take oath and apply for urgent passport processing. But the problem is I can't apply for Passport until I get Proof of citizenship certificate.

I wanted to ask, if anybody recently took oath and how long it took for you to get your citizenship certificate?

Thank you
R..

I don't see why you can not use your Indian passport. May be a question you can shot to Indian consulate.

Just dont take oath now, attend your emergency thing and once you are done you can take the oath and apply for passport.

You can request the ceremony clerk to expedite the sending of citizenship certificate. They will send the citizenship certificate through an express courier (such as Purolator) and you'll receive the citizenship certificate quickly.

One of the applicants had done this because his/her school required the details of Canadian passport. The OP requested the clerk to send the citizenship certificate quickly and that request was granted.

If you go for urgent passport request, you will likely receive that within 2 business days.

So, assuming you receive your Citizenship certificate on the 3rd day after your oath and passport takes 2 days, then you will be able to obtain a Canadian passport in 5 days (5 business days or 7 days) after oath. This is an approximate timeframe.

You can travel to India with your Indian passport. AFAIK, you can still use the Indian passport up to 3 months after becoming a foreign citizen. The only caveat to this is you won't be able to fly back to Canada without a Canadian passport. You'll have to apply for Canadian passport in Canadian consulate in India (and for this, you'll have to carry your citizenship certificate).

So, if you have 7 - 8 days of time after oath to fly to India, you could think about taking this route. But remember, the urgent passport might not be issued in 2 days and if they don't, you'll need a backup plan.

Sadly, my Indian passport and pr card both r expired. I was supposed to get oath ceremony long ago but due to covid second wave everything was delayed!! So If I plan to use my indian passport, I should apply under tatkaal and whn I want to come to Canada, I need to apply for PRTD. And postpone my citizenship...

Well, yeah. You'll have to get an Indian passport urgently. PR card renewal takes time.

However, there is an option for 'Urgent Processing' of PR card. See if you qualify and apply immediately.

My suggestion: In the future, never ever let your travel documents expire expecting 'I'm not going to travel' or any other reason for that matter. Apply for renewal as soon as the organization will accept document renewal. You never know when an emergency will come knocking your door.

Hi everyone. I apologize if this is not the relevant question under this topic. Please guide me where I can post. Its about applying for new Passport within Canada, in GTA Ontario.

I'm trying to help my dad get his passport. He applied for Passport back in April. We have not heard anything tried call center, they dont even answer.
He had a medical appointment in NY, which we have rescheduled second time, now its on 25th June. We have got the tickets.
I'm in GTA, Ontario. So we plan to go to one of the Passport offices - either North York or Toronto - as the wait times are less.
I have learned there is a different line for Transfers - in which he will have to stand.
Does he need to bring his Photo as well?

Any insight by any of the members - grateful for your help.

kind regards.
