Dear Memebers of this forum,

I've prepared my application for the CEC with careful planning. I have a few questions on the NOC code and its applicability to my situation:

1. Duration:
I worked with a company for 20 months in the past 36 months. I understand this qualifies me with a sufficient time/experience factor.

2. NOC code:
When applying for my permit my job duties were submitted to CIC which were part business development officer (4163A) part Sales manager (0611).

However, I received a Work Permit stating I was an Information systems and Data Processing manager. So, I am curious as to what my NOC code should be. I checked with the CIC Call centre and they informed me to include a letter explaining my job duties and go with Business Development Officer.

3. Employer Letter:
My employment letter contains all the requirements under the Document Checklist with a job title Business Development Specialist.

What should my NOC code be?
I can provide job duties if needed.

My work permit is closed with the Employer but I received it through the International Experience Canada program. So I didnt need an LMO and wage rates were set by the employer.

I sent my job duties and description to CIC when I first applied for the permit in July 2011. Now all it says on the Remarks section is Occupation should read: Marketing.

cheers!

This is close to my inference on the topic:

1. My letter of reference and job description for the IEC are very close.
2. It is true
3. The wages are above the low wages in the profession but not the median wage - however I was told by CIC call centre officials that the wage rate is a non determinant
4. My NOC at this time is 4163A

The reference letter is signed and dated.
What next?

cheers!

The only sticking point for me is that the NOC code 4163 is not as close to my job duties as the NOC 0611 however the wages are too high for me to ask for that NOC code.

Also, my reference letter says Business Development Manager/Marketing Specialist. Does that work with the NOC 4163A

If these two questions are answered I should rest easier.

cheers!

Right after the 20 months under IEC I applied for an new work permit with a positive LMO.

My previous years of experience i.e. 3 in Canada included 2 years as a Business Development Officer (2months)

CIC gave me my present work permit which is NOC 0611. So, this ledme to believe there is leeway as long as you can provide sufficient explanation in your cover letter. Your thoughts?

Sorry Byrwus, that is my present work permit, not the one i am applying under.

We are debating the relevance of NOC 4163 to the following reference letter:

I am writing this letter in support of the Permanent Residency application for Mr. NEW CEC APPLICANT.

In his position as Business Development Specialist/Marketing Specialist, NEW CEC APPLICANT was employed at our organisation from July 15, 2011 to March 6, 2013. As a full time employee he was responsible for spearheading the business, marketing and communications of our team. He developed business for the company, coordinated with partners of our company, improved marketing initiatives through social media, direct mail and communicated with our existing client base. While working with the company he gained an invaluable insight into the industry.

As Business Development Manager/Marketing Specialist, he worked 40 hours per week His wages were $2,500/month or $30,000 per year since January 2012. NEW CEC APPLICANT also received benefits such as 2 week paid vacation and extended health benefits.

thanks Byrwus

In earnest, I would like to know if the JD applies to NOC 4163, if not then I'll have a different game plan, if yes, then good.
cheers!

:) Folks I am still looking to find out if my Job descriptions match the NOC code. As a loyal reader of these threads I have noticed this problem earlier.

One user recommended calling and checking with HRSDC and then sending them an email on the same. I hope to receive more information from my peers here.

cheers!
New CEC Applicant.

I have to agree with byrwus. I do not understand your job description either. It is too generic.

This is THE MOST important piece of your documentation and it is not detailed enough.

My suggestions:

Write you job descriptions in bullet form

Be more specific as to what YOU did in your role. Coordinated with partners, developed business for the company etc - those are not descriptions.

Gaining invaluable insight - that is not a job description. Thats a result.

I reiterate that this letter is going to make or break your case. Spend some time on it. Go through the description on the HSRDC site. Re-phrase those sentences to match closely with your job duties. You may also have some extra stuff that you do, put it down. When you say through social media - what do you mean by that? Did you manage the posts? Did you write down marketing campaigns? Did you work with vendors to create marketing initiatives? Did you design the post? what did you do?

Same goes for direct mail marketing. what was your role? did you design the piece? did you initiate the campaign? how did you manage the campaign? how did you market it? how did you select the customers that it was to be mailed to? I hope you are getting what I am trying to say here. Just stating improved marketing initiatives doesnt mean anything.

Redo it and post it here and we would be able to help you.
