Hi Guys,

My application for PR is under process and got my BOWP and currently working in Canada with family and kid. Post receving BOWP i had applied for Visa extention online within Canada.

Today i got message from CIC that my visa extention application is been withdrawn, below is the reason they have not processed my application.

This refers to your application for a visitor record and the applications of your family members (XXXXXXX) received on 09/16/2014. No action is being taken to process your request for the following reasons:

You are currently in possession of a permit which confers status as a temporary resident in Canada. A temporary resident visa cannot be issued at our office. Please visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-how.asp to find out how to apply for a Canadian temporary resident visa from within Canada.

My current visa is expiring on 31st October 2014 and would like to renew / extend till i get my PR.

Below are the application details that i have submitted:

IMM5708E for self, spouse and kid
Marriage Certificate
passport scan copy
Medicals
Family Representative
Photos, Bank Statement
Work Permit

I am not sure what went wrong, could anyone please guide me. Good thing is that they processed to refund my visa application fee :)

Thanks,

Below is steps as I am unable to post that direct link online:

1) Click the given link: https://www.google.ca/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=YYAtVKukAe_L8gei04DYBw&gws_rd=ssl#q=trv
2) Click second link: Apply for a new temporary resident visa from within Canada
3) Download application, and proceed.

Hope this helps.

You can never have too many BOWPs 8)

If you already have a BOWP, why do you need a visa extension? It's not clear to me because you've sent passport copies...

If you need a TRV (temporary resident visa) to re-enter Canada (i.e. you guys are traveling out and coming back in), then the documents are different. You don't need to "renew" your TRV unless you plan to leave the country.

See http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visa.asp for the correct docs - make sure you get the checklist for Applicants in Canada.

Anyway, I just received my TRV last week (applied from within Canada) so if you are confused, I might be able to help.

I think you posted wrong link. He doesn't have to apply for Visitors visa , he has to apply for Temporary resident Visa. Please double check the link you provided.

I think it is either of the following two reasons:

1) You might have ticked the wrong option while selecting what you are applying for in your TRV application.

2) You might have submitted an outdated version of the form. This had happened to me - I downloaded the forms a few weeks earlier and had submitted them in my application but within those few weeks, CIC had updated their application forms for TRV. So my application was withdrawn with vague reasons as yours. I just resubmitted my application with the updated forms with no change in information/documents sent and within 3 days my application was approved and a passport request was sent.

Quite sure it is the right link since that was the one I used to obtain my TRV.

It says right at the top: "Application For Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa - TRV)".

Because I applied for TRV using different link. I already posted steps above.

A temporary resident visa cannot be issued at our office. Please visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-how.asp to find out how to apply for a Canadian temporary resident visa from within Canada.

which office did you send your request to?

there is a difference between a temporary residence permit and a temporary resident visa (TRV). The permit allows you to reside in Canada, as does a study permit and a work permit. You don't need this if you already have a valid study or work permit.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-permit.asp

A TRV is a travel document that is required by airlines to permit you to board a flight to that country. If you are not from a visa-exempt country, you need this if you plan to travel of Canada and return by air. Until recently, you could only apply for this outside of Canada. It is a different application, and goes to a different office.

Hello Friend,

I assume, You are submitted in the wrong office.
If you have valid workpermit or study permit you can stay in canada.
check correct VO office and apply TRV(Temp resident visa)

Thanks Guys for the info.

Now i realized my mistake i had applied with wrong application form Temporary resident permit instead of Temporary resident visa. I will re apply ASAP. One more question can i apply for TRV even after expiry of my Visa? If yes will there be an extra fees ?

As i applied online I am still wondering why did it asked me to fill IMM 5708E application instead of IMM5257? May be i had answer the questionnaire wrongly, i will retry and let you know guys if need any more help.

+1 for Jes & Goku :)

Thanks,

Yes, you can still apply, there will be no extra fees. Keep in mind you do not need it to stay in Canada. You only need it if you plan to travel. (and good to have in case of emergencies). You can also leave Canada without the TRV and apply for it outside of Canada, if you have enough time.
