Hello forum folks, I am praying some of you will have some knowledge or experience with this one. I have noticed from reading on this forum that even parents do not get TRVs to be able to be present for the births of their own children, which to me is cruel and inhumane by the way.

On that note, I just received some bad news yesterday, my Dr. confirmed that I have cancer :( and I will need some major surgery immediately, by next week. 4-8 week recovery time then radiation treatment 5 days/week for 4-6 weeks. My husband and I have been together for 6 years and we had never previously been successful at getting him a TRV for him to visit me in Canada. So we figured we would just submit our application and sit tight for the now 19 month processing times and I may get back to his country a few times while we wait.

This changes everything now and he is inconsolable :'( because, in the last 5 years, 2008 my father died of cancer, in 2010 my younger brother died of cancer, 2012 oldest brother almost died from cancer (he has survived so far thank you God) and now I have the Big C. Prior to 2008, not one peson in my family had cancer. So please everyone = do not put off until tmw. what you can do today.

We are running around now like crazy to submit yet again another TRV in the off chance that husband may be able to get one. WE know our chances are low, but feel we need to try again. My question is, has anyone reading this even been in this situation, for lack of a better term, an illness or medical TRV request. I have all the normal stuff plus all of the medical documentation, Dr. notes, pathology results etc. Any other advice or words of wisdom?

Senior members, can you please chime in?. My husband and I would be most grateful and please pray for us. Thank you and Blessings.

Wow CdnandTrini..Am very sorry to hear about your situation. :( I dont know anything with this n what I did think abt is the obvious ie giving your Docs medical report tht describes what u jus told us like the recovery..radiation etc. Also how about a letter from your doc saying your husband will b needed for your recovery ie physical help n psychologically..something like this.

I just hope everything works for u and u get cured

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement Sabriyah they are most appreciated. And yes my doctor's notes will include those type of recovery support details. Blessings.

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation in addition to immigration issues. It's too bad there isn't a separate program for medical emergencies such as this or even TRV for humanitarian/compassionate reasons.
After my own experience with TRV refusal and reading comments/blogs from lawyers, I am learning that the decision has very little(if any) to do with the host and everything to do with the applicant.
It is for this reason I am concerned for you because despite the difficult challenge ahead of you, your husband still has to satisfy the officer that he will leave Canada at the end of his visit. It is so subjective and arbitrary that one can only count on the kindness of the visa officer assessing his application.

I would still go ahead and have him apply. Provide details as you outlined - in your invitation letter, consider introducing yourself and your husband, describe your relationship, when you received this sad news, what made you go for this test(having lost family members to the disease? discovered during routine check-up?, etc). Provide name & relationship of the family members you've lost to the disease, how you are handling the news(any fears, scared?), any supports you have and why you need your husband with you.
Explain the toll it is also taking on your husband, etc. If he is working, is it possible for him to obtain a recent employment letter and leave of absence based on your medical condition? This will help strengthen his case that he will return. You may want to consider making arrangements for longer term support of yourself(not everyone recovers in those timelines, though we all pray you are in sound health asap). This may also go a long way to show them he won't stay indefinitely.

If all else fails, consider applying for a temporary resident permit. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/permits.asp

On another note, have you spoken to your MP about it? You may want to also seek their help in advance, perhaps he/she could give you a letter to include with the application.

I really really hope he gets visa this time... you will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery and visa for your hubby. :)

Hello SenoritaBella and thank you so much for the prayers and helpful information. I agree with your assessment of the obstacles and I am checking out the TRV vs TRP options as we speak and waiting to hear back from my MP. I very much appreciate the time you and others have taken to send words of encouragement, they are warmly received :)

You are welcome, dear. I work in the healthcare field(research), seen my fair share of cancer survivors and they are one of the most resilient people. Haven't met you but it's apparent(from your comments) that you have a positive outlook on life and you will beat this illness. :) I pray your MP comes through soon... who knows, perhaps his/her letter could lead to speedy processing too.
