Hi Alll,

I am writing to ask if anyone could help me with my cousin's case.
Here is his case:
So he had applied for an extension of study permit because his study permit had expired on March 2017 whereas his study in one of College in Canada finished on June 2017.
He had applied for an extension and got his extension of study permit will expire on July, 1st 2018.
On February 2017, he had applied to one of University in Manitoba
On June 8th, he went back to Indonesia for holiday and family matter
On mid of June, he has got standardize letter of acceptance from the University
Until now he is still in Indonesia and preparing to apply for Visa Student Canada and planning to go back on August 20th.
I have some Inquiries:
1. Since he is back to Indonesia, does his extension of study permit still valid until he go back to Canada?
2. Or should he reapply for new study permit?
3. he did not get certificate from his College because he did not finish others subject but his total credit is 51.
Since he does not have Certificate from his College, if he wants to apply for visa student will it be ok if he only submit his transcript?
In his College he took Associate of Science : Environmental Studies. Now in University he continues to take Bachelor of Environmental Design.
4. Should he take medical check up if he applies for visa student Canada?

I would appreciate it if anyone could give advise as soon as possible.
Thank you in advanced.

Regards,

Meli

Your cousin needs to check if his student visa (the sticker sticks in his pasport) is still valid when goes back to Canada in August 20th. If the visa has expired then he needs to apply for a new student visa using the acceptance letter from University of Manitoba. The visa will give him the permit to enter Canada.

Hi dna,
Thank you very much for your reply.
His student visa has expired.
By the way, How about the extension of his study permit (which expired on 1st July 2018), is it still valid? Or he has to renew it as well? Thank you dna.

If his student visa has expired then he needs to apply for a new one to be able to re-enter Canada. Check as well the validity of his passport. If it is going to expire soon, I would recommend him renew his passport first before he applies for a new student visa. I think the officer at the embassy will issue the validity of his student visa based on the length of his study or the validity of his passport, which ever comes first.

I believe the student permit is issued at the port of entry (airport) when he comes back to Canada. I believe in his student permit states the name of the institution that he was attending. So the immigration officer at the airport may or may not issue a new student permit. I think he has to show his acceptance letter from the university and his extended student permit to the immigration officer once he arrives at the airport. Or you can ask the officer at VFS Jakarta when he applies for the visa.

If he has to renew his passport, I suggest him to ask the immigration office where he renews his passport to get his old passport back for his file. I always ask for my old passport back when renewing my passport for my file.

Whether he needs to undergo medical check up, it is up to the officer at embassy. He may or may not be requested to do the medical check up again as he did it once he applied for the first student visa. I think he will know it after he submits his visa application. Make sure he includes his acceptance letter from University of Manitoba in his visa application.

I hope this helps. By the way, I am an Indonesian as well who holds a permanent residency in Canada.

Hi dna,
Apologize me for getting back to you late. Thank you very much for your reply. Luckily, he just renewed his passport 6 months ago, and by today I have submitted his visa application. I submitted paper application. Hope it does not take too long for the processing time, as by the end of Aug he has to be in Canada. By the way, nice to meet Indonesian over this forum. Thank you very much for your advice. :)

Hi dna,

Yesterday, I tracked on my cousin's application status through VFS Canada indonesia website. It was stated that my cousin's passport has been dispatched to VFS Office, by the way does it mean that the embassy has approved my cousin's student visa? but my cousin did not get any notification/ an email about approval from embassy. So how can we know that the visa / study permit has been approved? We have not taken the passport by the way. Kindly your advice Dna, Thank you.
