HI Guys,

I know that I can change my program according to CIC and I´m want to do it. But I have a 3 months gap between being enrolled in on a program and being accepted in another.

How does this affect my visa status? Can I still work part time? what about my wife´s open permit?

Thanks.

Although I am not an expert on this matter but logically speaking you will still be a student with same work rights as before and
your wife's owp will remain same as well. Don't forget to update your Mycic details of change of course provider. Good Luck

I read somewhere (maybe on this thread (sorry forum I mean);haven't got time to dig it out) or maybe you can call up CIC as well that you have a window of
90 days but more than that makes your study permit invalid. There will always be some gap when you move from one provider to another.
I would still advise you to call them for confirmation. Cheers

Better call. Even I am going to change after this semester and lot of people do it so there shouldn't be any problem for upto 90 days. All I have heard
is that you definitely need to update your MyCIC details. Cheers.

One thing I am not sure about is if you can work part time/full time during gap period. So please confirm that as well and inform me also ;)

- You cannot work part time during this three month period since you will not be enrolled in school.
- Your wife can continue working.
- If you are out of school for more than 90 days, your study permit will be cancelled. This information is available on the CIC web site.

Hi Scylla, thanks for the prompt reply. Can you tell me where I find this info on the CIC web site, I was only able to find those options bellow, and none of then applies.

"A study permit becomes invalid 90 days following the completion of studies unless the foreign national also possesses a valid work permit or another authorization to remain in Canada." -

or

"You may seek restoration within 90 days after your status as visitor, student or worker has been lost, because you failed to comply with one or more of the following conditions:

You remained in Canada longer than the period authorized for your stay (but not longer than 90 days).
You changed employers, location of employment, or type of work (occupation or level of responsibility) before obtaining a new work permit.
You changed the type of studies, educational institution, location of studies, or times and periods of studies without applying to change these conditions on your study permit if they were specified on your study permit.
You may still be eligible for restoration if you continue to meet the initial requirements for your stay and have not failed to comply with other conditions imposed."

Thanks again.
