I arrived in Canada in April 2024 and enrolled in the Project Management program at Durham College, which I completed in December 2024. After graduation, I took a four-month break as I was unable to find a suitable course for the January 2025 intake. I later secured admission in the Personal Support Worker (PSW) program at Humber College (Lakeshore Campus), with classes beginning in May 2025. According to IRCC regulations, I understand that I am under implied status, which allows me to continue studying and working legally in Canada while awaiting a decision on my permit extension.

My study permit was valid until April 2025, and I submitted my study permit extension application on March 20, 2025. However, I recently received a notification from Humber College stating that students who do not provide proof of their permit extension by May 16, 2025, will be withdrawn from the program.

That is the school’s prerogative. Assume many who were studying were being denied extension during their studies causing a problem for the school. Many are applying for PSW programs like you are which is a drastic change in career path that they can’t justify thinking this will be an easy path to PR.

Contact the school and ask if they will make an exception and give you more time.
