Hi,

My case for PR was submitted on Oct 5, 2018 and in November we discovered about pregnancy. Our application is so far running smooth, and as of today (Feb 25, 2019) our medical is passed, biometric done, and Background check is in IP2 status at the moment, Standard completion time is April 5, 2019. Now considering pregnancy, which is due in July 20 2019, followed by our medical expiring on Sep 7, 2019, we are considering following options and have some queries in each of them for the experts here like you to advise on;

Option 1: - If we receive PR in March, we move there in April and have child born there in July.
Queries:
1. How long it would take for OHIP to get? Would it be effective backdated or only after we receive it i.e. after 3 months?
2. Alternatively, what is the costing of delivery privately in Canada like? Would we be broke if we do not get OHIP? :)

Option 2: - If we receive PPR call, we request for delay of PPR and also extension in Medical.
Queries:
1. Considering our medical is expiring on Sep 7, 2019 - whereas the child's due date is July 20 so there are 47 days in between which should accommodate, up n down in due date, time to arrange baby's documents, submission, their timeline, submission of passport and subsequent visa on passport. Hence, do you think they will be able to extend our medical for 2 months so that we do not need to have it again?
2. If we have to do medical again, how long the case can be further extended to?

Option 3: We go to Canada for soft landing in April / May, return to home country for delivery here. Then I go to Canada in September and apply for sponsorship.
Queries:
1. How long would it take for sponsorship?
2. Do I need to have a job in hand before applying for sponsorship or the meeting the funds requirement would be sufficient to apply for sponsorship immediately after landing?

Looking forward for best advises on above challenge...Thank you.

Hi

Option 1:

1. 3 months. No backdating.

2. Anywhere from a few thousand dollars for a normal delivery to a million dollars or more if there are serious complications.

Option 2:

1. IRCC may extend your medicals or require new ones.

2. It would be extended to a year from the new medical.

Option 3:

1. Expect at least 6 months, possibly a year.

2. You don't need a job and there is no funds requirement to sponsor a dependent child.

Note that with option 3, one parent needs to be actually living in Canada throughout the process. If the child requires a TRV and you are unable to get it, expect to be separated for up to a year.

There is also a mid-wife option which is significantly less expensive. I know of a friend who was in the same predicament.
