Urgent Help Needed: Work Experience Query

Dear all:

Please help me with your suggestions about the following:

1) My work experience as a lecturer comprise of 10 years, out of which the first three were on two 6 months contracts and one 1 year contract. The last seven years were when my job became permanent and regularized.

Now the contracts always had a gap of weeks and sometimes even months before renewal (due to seasonal vacations of the university). How do I show the gaps? "Looking for emplyment" or "unemployed"

2) Or should I simply show all the 10 years (contract plus permanent) in one continuous chunk. My departmental chairman will of course be mentioning the eary period as contract based while next 7 years as permanent. I must mention that my job duties and working hours remained the same throughout.

3) Do I need to show payslips and job offer/contract renewal letters in addition to the reference letter from the chairman of the department? If so, I have the payslips for all of my permanent work experience except the very first month. Can that be a problem? Moreoever, i dont have any payslips for the contract based three years work.

As for job offer/appointment and renewal of contract letters are concerned, out of four such letters two have a spelling mistake in my name. My name is Omar Khan, whereas the letter says, "Umar Khan". That would be a problem, right?

I too have some issues with my experience letter as I was internally transferred and re-designated during my association...what now I'm trying is to arrange a fresh experience letter from the company specifying each designations and dates.
Likewise why don't you try for a consolidated experience letter from your department head stating your experience stating each term,nature of the contract ,hours per week , remuneration .also you can ask him to include a mention about the gap between contracts as on account of University vacation ...if you are getting such a fresh letter the spelling can be corrected,and also you won't need to give any additional clarifications regarding the gap periods...
I have been following the forum for last two months and I understand it is the discretion of the scrutinizing officer at CIC wether the docs submitted suffice,provided it contains all the required information specified by CIC...(it should be on letterhead with the address , contact details of the firm, the supervisor signature and name and contact , letter mentioning the job as a full-time permanent one,weekly work hours ,duties and responsibilities,the remuneration paid etc.
Get a fresh letter if the organization cooperates and it should be fine...
so

further,as the CRS points for experience outside Canada tops out at 3 years....so,it doesn't really matter if you even omit the first 3 years and get a letter stating your start date as permanent employment commencement date...

Thank you for the detailed response. I can do that very easily as the head of my department is very cooperative. I just thought to add furthee supporting documents as well in addition to the reference letter. But now I am thinking why not just upload the reference letter alone. So do you think I should have seperate letters from head of department, one for the permanent position and other for the first three contract years?

This seems a better idea to me. But what if they find out in backgroubd checks that i was working there on stop gaps contract basis also for three years, and penalize me for hiding facts?

on ur CRS points,the first 3 years is not going to make any difference...as me with only 3 years and you with 7 years experience outside Canada will be given equal CRS points ...you may get additional points on work experience beyond 3 years only if you've Canadian experience...
so,a letter neatly mentioning every detail as per CIC requirement will get you ur maximum points even with the 7 years...you may collect and keep a letter for the first 3 years also but in my opinion you only need to show it in personal history section and not under work experience.....and personal history area,they don't ask you for proof...
also while uploading the experience letter it is better to complie your experience letter / offer letter / proof of pay & any other supporting docs in one single PDF file (less than 4 MB) and upload against the respective work experience term....(unlike you said,I suggest keeping the supporting docs as well ,but all compiled into one PDF)

Of course you're being a bit nervous...
I'm too....we all are because it's with our dream...
anyway,CIC is interested in knowing what you were doing since your school days and each day needs to be accounted in personal history section...but you don't need proof for it (unless foreign travel etc)....there can't even be a single day gap...so there in personal history you can mention the detail of ur contract job ...
However in work experience section whatever you put,it is for gaining eligibility as well as points ....so u need proof and need to upload documents as suggested in my previous reply...

I'm too....we all are because it's with our dream...
anyway,CIC is interested in knowing what you were doing since your school days and each day needs to be accounted in personal history section...but you don't need proof for it (unless foreign travel etc)....there can't even be a single day gap...so there in personal history you can mention the detail of ur contract job ...
