Hi, long time lurker, just made an account because an issue has come up and I'm hoping someone has some insight.

So I got the date for the oath ceremony via email 3 weeks ago for tomorrow (September 21). It happened to be the one Friday that my husband couldn't make it to the ceremony, so I sent an email asking if the date could be changed. I followed up with a call to the CIC to ask if there was anything else I should do and the agent I spoke to said I would just have to wait for a response. She also said that if I hadn't received a response by the 21st, I should just show up to the ceremony to prevent any problems.

So 3 weeks have passed, I am prepped and ready for the ceremony tomorrow, have decided it's ok for me to go alone without my husband there, and of course, I get an email from the CIC today saying they have forwarded my request on to the concerned department. Specifically, they say:

"We verified the information you provided and have forwarded it to the responsible office.

They will contact you if further information is required or if a decision is made on your application.

We hope the information provided is helpful in assisting you with your enquiry."

What does this mean? Should I still go to the ceremony tomorrow because technically, they haven't approved my request or provided a new date? Help!

I would definitely go! Worst case, you don't get to do it. Best case, you become a citizen tomorrow :)

Follow-up question: should I take along a copy of the email that I received today and show it to someone there? Or just keep quiet, take the oath (if they'll let me) and let CIC contact me about this email in the future?

I would take a print of the email, present to them and say you showed up because you had not heard back with a confirmation that they processed the request, so you are showing up as per originally scheduled interview.

Let us know how it went! :D

It went great! I am officially a Canadian citizen as of 10 am this morning :) I didn't actually get a chance to show anyone the email from yesterday until after the ceremony was done and all the photos were taken, but as I was exiting the room I was able to speak to one of the staff there and explained the situation. She told me I had nothing to worry about and that this delay was because the webform department takes a while to connect to the IRCC office. So all is well that ends well! Thank you again for your help.
