Hi all,

My wife and I are doing a landing trip to Vancouver this Thursday. While we are going to be in Canada only for about 1 week (not sure when we will move there for good), I just wanted to confirm the list of documents that I am carrying:

1. A print of downloaded bank statements from a local bank in India and one from my US bank account.
2. COPR & Passports
3. Marriage certfiicate
4. 2 photographs
5. Education credentials and work references
6. Travel insurance

I've also got a an address of a close friend of mine that I am going to share with the officer to have my PR delivered to. We are returning back from Vancouver next Sunday. Do you think I've got it covered? Is there a need to:

1. Carry cash in hand? (I'll be carrying about a 100 USD since I am planning to use my CC).
2. I am not sure when I'll actually move for good (definitely by mid 2018), so is there any point in filling out the goods to follow list (so that I dont get taxed when my wife brings in jewelry or other goods when we actually move). If I should bring a GTF list, what kind of proof I need to bring?
3. Is there any way I can apply for the drivers license there? Any documents apart from my drivers license I need to bring for the Canadian license?

Would greatly appreciate if one can answer at least a few of my questions if not all... Smiley

Regards

just weighing in with my opinion based on what i have read, i will be in your situation a couple of months down the road, hopefully :)

note: i have not landed, so this is not my experience, so others might know better.

on GTF list question : you should definitely fill that and keep 2 copies - they will stamp one and give it back to you to keep for future entry (based on what i googled). I also read somewhere that if you can definitely take pictures of jewelry with the list (would suggest to surely do that if possible).
Also, my advise it put as much as you own on that list, if you dont bring to Canada later no issues, but this will be your only chance to get your personal possessions into Canada duty free. you won't be able to add to the list later.

on the cash in hand question.... i think you must declare any cash > 10K CAD but i'm not sure if there is an actual limit.

Would suggest to carry extra photos if you can, just in case and take keep your original POF bank letter (submitted when applying). If you can get a refreshed POF letter to go along with your downloaded/notarized bank statements do that.

Good luck with your landing and please do post your experience/learning for future short landing from US by others such as me... would highly appreciate it !

I'm not expert but try to take little bit more than $100 beside your CC.

i agree, even though most places do accept CC there, still would be a better option to carry some extra cash, preferably in smaller bills... anything more than a 20 is quite difficult to get change for..

Thanks all who replied.

For POF - I am just downloading the last 12 months worth of statements from my bank accounts and printing them. I haven't gotten it signed or notarized anything. Is it required to get them signed or get a specific letter from the bank?

i think bank statement should be fine... even latest 1-2 month statement... you just need to show you have xxx amount of money when you land... doesnt matter to them how long it has been with you...
12 months ? jeez that must weigh a kilo on its own... ha ha

good luck

Haha. It does weigh a kilo. I'll just recycle the un-necessary papers :)
