Urgent: Entering canada with out RO

Hi All,

Need your urgent help on below situation of mine.

I got my PR back when I was a kid in 1994 and left 3 years later. I was under the impression that my PR status has been withdrawn given I didn't fulfill my RO but it wasn't until I was applying for tourist visa (as my passport requires me to get eTA) on ICRR online that I got a message saying I am a PR and that if I like to retain my PR status I would need to get a PR travel document or I can renounce my PR.

As much as I would like to keep the PR, it's most likely going to be rejected given I haven't been back since 1997? If that's the case would it be better for me to renounce PR so I can proceed with getting eTA in time for my visit in one month time? What is the typical timing for renouncing of PR? If I do try and apply for PR travel document but it's not granted would they go ahead with processing the eTA or would I have to submit another application? Thank you so much for any suggestions.

Yes you should renounce your PR status and apply for eTA. You can renounce status by filling out an applicaion form and sending to local visa office, or at a Canada POE. However since your problem is getting to Canada, you won't be able to do at a POE unless you go via USA land border.

Your timing is very tight. You will need to complete the app, mail it in, have them process it, and update your PR staus in their system so eTA app can see it and approve you as a visitor. I have no idea if all this can happen within 1 month. If it takes longer then you will need to delay your trip, or go to Canada via USA land border.

Thanks for the prompt response.

So I've decided to renounce my PR and according to the letter I received from IRCC account (where I had originally requested the eTA) I'm suppose to submit my renouncing application via my IRCC account, however there is no upload button. Would anyone be familiar with the website know where documents can be uploaded? Thank you.

Hi, I'm encountering the same problem regarding PR status. I've received the letter through IRCC online. The button to submit the file is within the messages page (where the letter is), click "View submitted application" to submit your file.

However, after submitting the form, I'm having trouble with the required photos. They've sent me another letter asking for 2 photos to be submitted through the same portal. But the requirements regarding the back side of the photos are confusing. How am I supposed to print my details on the "back" of a digital photo? can anyone please help me with this? Thanks. I'm flying to Toronto on Nov 25 and I really need to solve this PR/eTA problem.

I've just managed to find and submit the renouncing documents on IRCC website. Typically how long can I expect a response ? And how do I know if it has been received ? Thanks
