Urgent--Employer said current SIN will be locked after WP expires

Hello Seniors,

I submitted my file after ITA on 11th April, 2017, My open work permit will expire on 11th June, 2017 so i applied for BOWP and it still under process, haven't received anything yet.

My employed said that my SIN number will be blocked once my WP expires. I went to service canda today and they said that they can extend validity of my SIN only after I receive new WP from CIC. I am aware about that once my work permit expires I will be under Implied Status and continue working but I am quite not sure about SIN.

Can someone please help me on this...its urgent

I continued working under implied status and nothing went wrong. At some point the HR person contacted me about my expired SIN number, I told her I was under implied status and everything continued normally - meaning: I received my salary as expected.

You being under implied status shouldn't be a problem for your employer.

There is nothing like blockage or you won't get paid. Under implied status your SIN will still be active as legally you are allowed to work and you will receive Salary.

Nothing to worry. i moved to USA last year from Canada. My SIN expired in Oct 16. I still filed my 2016 Tax return with the same SIN. My SIN is still active in CRA website. Bank accounts in Canada still use the same SIN. As i understand the SIN is yours for the life. Service Canada has to give an end date which is tied to WP but doesn't mean much. I would Call CRA help line for any clarification.

Thank You...I read somewhere on CIC website they temporary residents have SIN number with expiry date so I was kinda worried. I will call CRA for more clarification...

It will be not locked,but your employer may get a notice from CRA that the SIN is expired. After this notice nothing happens.there is details about this issue on the CRA website.i did print it out and i gave that and my copy of my work permit extension to the employer.
