I've read the only requirement for colour is a PCC.

I would suggest lowering the resolution to 300pi on your scanner. They will go under 4mb. Colour would be better.

Scan in color using 300 DPI and use http://pdfcompressor.com/ to compress. The site has some nifty compression and looks way better than scanning with 100 or 200 DPI from your scanner.

Send the PCC in color through CSE.

I think it's fine as their is NO REQUIREMENTS what so ever for color.. except for PCC!

Having said that if you can scan in color that would be better.

I have submitted most of mine in color, but for my common law I had to submit over 100 pages of documents (they ask for 12+ months of bills and anything else that's relevant) 50 pages pages of documents and 50 pages of translations meant that I had to reduce the quality to bad photo copy quality... still readable though, but doesn't look good. In fact, even after doing this I still couldn't get the 100 pages in one PDF, so 70 pages in one and the rest I attached to the same PDF as my LoE.

I made a point to explain this on my LoE, that in some cases we need to submit a lot of supporting documentation and 4MB is just a pathetically low file upload limit. I can understand such limit when DIAL-UP internet was the norm, but c'mon man, we've moved on significantly since then...

Only PCC ? What about marksheets, passport, etc. ?
I scanned most of my stuff on color using 150 DPI outputting to PDF. Then I ran them through smallpdf.com's PDF compress which works miracles!

But when it came to the documents for common law then it was B&W text as there was no other way to get it down to a 4MB file.

But the only thing you should worry about is the PCC, which needs to be in the original color... so long as everything else is legible you should be ok submitting in B&W.

That's a lot for common law! You only need to prove 12 months of cohabitation :p

I know, but I've seen quite a few posts of people getting reject after providing only the signed statement and 12 months worth of bills so I went all in:
- Signed common law union in public notary in 2011 + translation
- 12 months of bills (electrical under my name and cable under my wife's name) + the FISRT (and only the first) bill of each type translated
- Property deed showing we co-own the property + translation
- Purchasing agreement from 2011 showing we co-bought the property + translation
- Our TAX forms showing each other's tax ID as spouse/partner + translation
- My corporate life insurance showing her as the beneficiary + translation

If they tell me that I've failed to provide evidence after this then I'll write to the Minister! :p

The thing is before going through the EE process we consulted with two immigration firms and both told us to get married as common law is a nightmare to prove and puts the application at great risk, so I wanted to make a bullet proof case... I just hope it works!

Ha! To be honest that isn't really far off ours. We've been together since 2011, but although he lived at mine he did have a lease at a flat round the corner (storage) so we changed our common law start date to 6 months later. I've got bills and same address history for every 4 months since then. Wedding invitations, bank statements and photos from Facebook showing published dates!

I think common law applications are more likely to get rejected via spousal sponsorship with common law. I haven't found an EE common law rejection case yet! :p

Yea, I had a good Google. It seems less strict for EE. At least that's how it appears. We claimed common law for tax in Canada in 2014 and claimed common law in NZ for tax in 2015. Again, if this isn't enough proof then I don't know what is!! :p
