Hi there,

I have applied for my co-op work permit back in September but I still didn't receive it.
I have an upcoming internship in January 2022 and if I don't get my coop work permit in time, most probably I'm gonna lose my internship.
Is there any way to speed up the process? I already tried to flagpole at Niagara Rainbow bridge last week but it was unsuccessful.

Do you think if I do take a flight to USA and then come back, can I apply for coop work permit at the airport?

Thanks for advising

Hmm... That's a tough call. If the flagpoling wasn't successful then I would be concerned that the flight in and out won't be either.

I assume you have a valid US visa / are authorized to enter the country? Note that if you try this, you will need to spend a couple of days in the US to complete the molecular PCR test before returning.

Yea flagpoling was not successful because by the time I reached they already closed.
Do you know if I come back in 72hours from US do I still need a PCR test?

Yes - you still need a molecular PCR test. The 72 hour exemption is only for Canadian citizens and PRs and does not apply to you. You need to have test results that were performed in the US in order to be able to return.

If I tell the American border officer I am flagpoling and get "turned down" from entering the US, would I still be able to submit a work permit application to the Canadian side? In that case I didn't technically leave the country and would not need a PCR Test, right?

Sorry, I don't know the COVID test rules with the regard to flagpoling. I don't know the answer.

Just to clarify, you do actually leave Canada when you flagpole. You just don't enter the US. But it is considered exiting Canada and that's why you have to go through Canadian immigration when you return.

So would i need to get a PCR test in Canada to flagpole without entering the US? Not so much directed as you but more of an open question if anyone knows the answer

As said above, I have no idea how those rules work as it relates to flagpoling.

However flagpoling does involve exiting / leaving Canada.

I have exactly same issue. I have CO-OP internship starting Jan 2022 and still have not received any response from IRCC yet. I applied on 13th Sept. I have a question, do you think we can work if our co-op is in applied status?

No, you can definitely not work more than the 20h/week that are allowed in your study permit before receiving the work permit.

Hii All, I am in the same situation. I have applied for CO-OP and still waiting for a permit.

Can someone explain how to do a flagpole and what we should keep in mind before and while doing flagpole?

Is there any risk in doing this?

Doing flagpole for CO-OP permit will anyay affect my current study permit?
