Hi guys,

I just need some help on this situation.

I applied for my permanent residency under the CEC, and i have already received my file number as well. I am currently not employed. I am wondering if I can still apply for a bridging work permit if am not employed.? And also I have submitted my husband's PR file under mine, I am wondering if at all I can apply for his work permit (if i am not employed currently)?

Any ideas, or thoughts or info would be much appreciated.
Thank you for your help.
Have a nice day

Yes, you can apply for bowp as to be employed is not a requirement for BOWP. Your husband can apply as well. I applied for BOWP when I was unemployed (which I mentioned in the application where it asks for current status) and received it.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
But if you hold a visitor record now, I am not sure whether you could get your BOWP.

Technically, BOWPs are only for the principal applicant (PA) on the file. You are not required to be employed to be eligible for the BOWP.

Spouses are eligible for the spouse's open work permit based on the PA's BOWP (both applications can be submitted together).

HOWEVER, I believe you (the PA) have to be employed in a skilled occupation, for your spouse to be eligible for the open work permit. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=199&t=17
