I extended my work permit for another 2 years as a caregiver, here in Canada, but I am in the process of getting married with my employer, is there something that I/ we have to be aware of?? What do we have to do before we get married. IS there a possibility that I have to go back to Philippines, for him to sponsor me as his wife? if not, how long would it take foe us to wait for PR? Please help, thanks

If you have a 2 year work permit, you have the right to stay in Canada at least until it expires, whether you are working or not. You do not have to go back for your husband to sponsor you. Applying inland, you should get first stage approval in around 6 months and PR around 8 months after that, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp

Thank you so much Leon for spending time replying to my inquiry. Anyway, do i have to go for medical because he is going to sponsor me as his wife? As far as I know, if you apply for PR under LCP, you no longer needed to go for medical, I just dont know what to do. I will wait for your reply thanks again and more power!

For inland spousal, you don't have to do the medical right away so you could skip it and wait and see if they ask you for it.

Hi Leon,
this is regarding to my query about OWP and PR. Gladly,, i received a confirmation that CIC received my application for both, (under Live in caregiver) last month. my concern is, how long should i wait for my OWP? if i received OWP, can we proceed to get married? and if so, when is the best time to let CIC know about the change in my status for my PR application? \so that i can use my new name. thanks a lot nd more power.

For a live-in caregiver the OWP is not supposed to take very long. A regular work permit can take 1-2 months. I don't think it would be longer than that.

You can get married any time but maybe it's better to wait for the OWP. After you get the marriage certificate, you can inform immigration that you got married and send them a copy.

She is getting married to a guy who is already a PR or citizen so then it is not so critical as he will not be added to her application anyway. He will just get a mention in additional family information. However, she should still notify immigration that she got married.

What is more critical is if you marry a non-citizen and a non-PR during your PR processing. You are then obligated to add this spouse to your application because they need to be subjected to medicals and background checks as well. Same applies if you are living with someone during your PR processing and you hit the 1 year mark where towards immigration you become common law partners. You must add your common law partner if you are in a common law relationship.

Hi Leon!!!
I really appreciate the time for responding to my inquiry. Anyway, I got my OWP already last Sept 3rd 2013. It took only 2 months. :) Anyway, Im not sure if this is the first stage approval of my PR application. Yes he is a canadian citizen, and as he said, now that I got my OWP, we can get married soon. Im not sure if this will help my PR Application to process a bit faster..But now that I will become his wife, I will be a full time housewife, I dont know if I can apply for unemployment ( EI) I dont even know how to report to CRA that after we got married, i will no longer be his caregiver, because he will not pay anymore taxes for me. Pls. help. But still I will look for a job, so that I can earn my own money as well. pls advise me thanks again!!! :)
