Can anyone tell me if it is possible to apply for a work permit before claiming for asylum

Under what conditions do you qualify for a work permit?

Do you have a job offer and approved LMIA?

My friend is claiming refugee inside canada and wanted to know if she can apply for it since she will be claiming. I am not sure on what conditions

The only way she can apply for a work permit before claiming asylum is if she qualifies for a work permit separately. For example, she would need to have a job offer in Canada and an approved LMIA from her employer. Or her spouse would need to be working in Canada as a foreign worker in a NOC A, B or 0 skill level role. Or her spouse would need to be in Canada as an international student and studying full time at a qualifying college or university. Does she meet any of these conditions?

Would also warn you that getting asylum from Jamaica will be very difficult If your friend is from Jamaica.

Well posting history doesn't mean it's for the same person and I'm sure it's ok to ask questions for others who need answers. So your puzzle pieces are together properly. Stop looking at history it doesn't mean anything.

One case means nothing. In general unless you are part of the LGBTQ+ community it is very difficult to receive asylum from Namaica.

Jamaica statistics from IRB..leaning toward 50% chance

https://irb.gc.ca/en/statistics/protection/Pages/index.aspx

2021: 61% Accepted
2020: 46% Accepted
2019: 30% Accepted

50% is low since many Jamaicans don’t even apply for asylum knowing that they don’t have a case. The majority approved for asylum from Jamaica are part of the LGBTQIA+ population. In general in most of the Caribbean being part of the LGBTQIA+ is the most common reasons for being approved for asylum except for Cubans and Haitians.
