Hmm, so lets say if she receives an AOR from the CIC for the first application which CIC received on June 8th, 2015, what should she conclude?

For as long as she didn’t mark YES and left rest of the section blank, her application will be accepted.

My application returned by CIC which they received on 11th due to some mess up by UPS.

Once again I understand that CIC cut-off dates are serious. Even it does not make any sense.

Obviously they are serious. It's a government minister, they have to work according to the law. If they would accept application from 11th, then why not those from 12th or 13th?

sorry for all those who could not make it due to courier companies mess up! wish you all good luck, hope things get better for you in the new rule.

well, it's kinda hilarious that UPS call centre reps were telling customers that they have made arrangements with CIC making them accept applications under the old rule, yeah right!

guys CIC is a government institution and is very strict with timelines especially when the date will have a significant impact on an application such as C24. It's just the same as when applying for immigration in the past wherein if your application reaches them on a date when the FSW categories occupations list is updated and even though when you mailed out your application your occupation did exist on the list of occupations, however, the day it was received by CIC, if the new list of occupations did not have your occupation on it, they'd simply return your package mentioning that your occupation is not listed therefore you are not eligible for immigrating to Canada.

As for the UPS, while they assured me too of guaranteed delivery the very next day and I was even given the timings options that if I pay more my package could even be delivered before noon the next day and I paid the max to have the package delivered before noon but guess what? the package was delivered only after 2 days! (see my timelines below) Of course then I claimed and got a full refund of the courier fee but no wonder it was so annoying and frustrating! Luckily I sent my application end of March so I was safe. On the contrary, my experience with Purolator was great as later on I sent some additional documents to CIC just 3-4 days after I had sent out my original application and while Purolator advised me that my package will be delivered by the end of next business day, these guys delivered it at 1 pm the very next day and I was extremely pleased with this.

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and am relived to hear that many other people had the same miserable experience.

In short: I was eligible to apply on June 6th and sent my application on June 8th with priority service from Canada Post. They guaranteed next day delivery. However, they screwed up and my application was sonly received on June 11 at 9:32am.

I mad at Canada Post- but even more upset about the lack of transparency regarding the new date? I had called the call centre 3 times just to hear that the date of when the law would come into effect would be June 19 and all of the all of the sudden, I have to read on the homepage of Immigration Canada, that Bill C-24 would be effective as of June 11th- with no grace period?!

For the past year, I have precisely prepared and planned the application. I did not spent any vacation days outside of Canada for the past 8 months as otherwise they will be deducted and since I travel a lot for work, I needed to save the days. I have spent a lot of money and time to apply for dual citizenship with the country of Germany.

All of this to accidently find out on June 11 that the law will be in effect that very day. How come they announce such important date only business date beforehand? I did not check their website every single day. If I had known that, I seriously would have flown to Sydney myself to hand in my application.

I am already wondering if that was even legal?

I cannot tell you how frustrating this experience is to someone who really wants to be officially and by law, be finally a part of this society. Under the new law I will be only eligible to apply in 2017/ 2018 depending on how many days I will be outside of the country.

They annonced the new law 1 year ago, no 1 bussiness day ago. And the exact date was annonced 1 week before.

Regarding the $ you spent. If Canada Post guaranteed one day, they have to refund you and CIC will refund you too as your application wil be returned so you'll get your money back.

At least, you've a German passport, who's as good as the Canadian passport. Many people here have passport that need visa for every single country ....

I do sympathize -- that really sucks, it is tremendously frustrating. You are entitled to be bitter, angry, and frustrated, don't let anyone say that you should chuckle and forget about it. However, three things. First, you are already officially and by law, a part of this society. "Permanent Resident" means that Canada is yours, for you and your family and your descendants, for as long as you want it to be. You don't have the vote or the passport or the right to leave forever and return, but everything else.

Second, you could not have turned it in in person. Of course, you could have flown to Sydney and sent it express from there and it would have arrived; but there is no personal delivery option.

Third, I didn't think Germany permitted dual citizenship?

1) Absolutely correct - no in-person delivery possible.
2) German citizenship is by default lost when you apply for Canadian citizenship. However you can try to keep German citizenship through a formal process of requesting permission to be allowed to retain German citizenship prior to applying for Canadian citizenship. This process involves proving you still have substantial ties to Germany and that obtaining dual citizenship is beneficial to you.

Germany allows dual citizenship only with other EU countries and Switzerland. Unfortunately I don't think they allow it with Canada.

1. Actually they do.

"he German law on citizenship mandates that German citizens who voluntarily apply for and accept the Canadian citizenship will automatically lose the German citizenship if they have not been granted a permission to retain the German citizenship prior to becoming Canadian. This "Beibehaltungsgenehmigung" is granted by the competent authority in Germany on an individual basis. To obtain the permission, you must prove that you still have substantial ties to Germany and are in a personal situation in which the obtention of the dual German Canadian citizenship would be beneficial to you and/or avoid individual detriments. Please note that applications have to be submitted to the German Foreign Mission and that proficiency in German is mandatory."

And in practical situation, Germany doesn't have to now that you acquire another citizenship.
