Upfront Medical check

Hi,everyone. I am a pr applicant applied on 9 Aug, 2016. It’s been a year and I still not receiving any MR, however I did my upfront medical check on 21 Aug,2017. I have been told that the upfront usually take longer processing time and it will go thought a totally different way of how usually people do. Can someone explain to me how it works and will it take another year?

I also have a question for the same topic, is that okay to do upfront medicals for PNP PR application? Is that acceptable? Can't find the info.
