Updating new Passport on Study/Work Permit

I am here in Canada on a work permit. Our child of 16 is renewing his passport. What is the process for us to update CIC, IRCC about this change?

1. Do we need to apply for a new permit and ask for permit extension?
2. Or we just inform IRCC with details of his new passport and continue to use the old Study permit?

Any guidance will be very helpful.

Is your child on a study permit and it expires on the date of the PP expiry which it normally does? If yes then once you have the new PP you will have to apply for a study permit extension.
