Hi there,
Was wondering if anyone could help. I am the Sponsor of my American husband. I am Canadian by birth and we just got our DM and Passport Request. My question is, I just had a child a few weeks ago. As the Canadian Sponsor, I think my child is a Canadian Citizen by birth. However, when we sent in the form to the IRCC, the wrote back:
and
  • The add-on request including:
    • your client ID number/UCI,
    • a detailed letter of explanation,
    • a copy of the birth certificate, marriage certificate or proof of common-law relationship, and
    • if applicable, the proof of payment.
Useful tips:
  • If the newly eligible family member is a spouse, common-law partner or dependent child who is already a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, only the add-on request is required.
  • Please ensure to write ADD-ON on the forms and on the envelope.
-------------

I am assuming I only need to provide the add-on request since my child is automatically a Canadian Citizen? Would I need to provide them with a Canadian Citizenship Certificate for my newborn as well? I'm assuming we should send the add-on request before we send in my husband's PP?

Any guidance/information from anyone who has done similar would be appreciated!

Thank you!

You need to start the process to get proof of Canadian Citizenship for your child. It takes quite a bit to be issued.

It might be that your child is Canadian, but they don't assume it as so, as family history plays a role. For you to apply for your child's passport you will need to submit proof of citizenship or that it is in process.

Nothing to do with the process but thought you might want to know.
