Hello everyone! Our application is finally in process!!!

We just received this email today and aren't too sure how to go about it:

This is in reference to your application for permanent residence in Canada. In order for us to continue the processing of your application, we require the following documents:

Police Clearance Certificate(s) for: NEW ZEALAND as per the instructions attached . Note: Original police clearance certificates have a limited validity. You may have previously provided one of the certificates requested above, however you must now comply with the update request and provide a new certificate for your file. This requirement cannot be waived

The above information/documents must be received in our office before: 10 June 2013. Failure to do so could result in the refusal of your application. Please quote your complete application number on all correspondence with this office.

All documents must be accompanied by English or French translations. When original documents are requested, notarised documents are not acceptable.

We have the .pdf that they attached, but does this mean we have to snail mail the police check to them? Or can we scan and send it via additional documents? We're a little confused. LOL! If you've had to do this before and have any information on how to go about it correctly, we'd greatly appreciate some advice.

Thank you! :D

They require an original. You will have to (snail) mail it to them.

Wrong. For NZ, they ask for the Consent to Disclosure of Information (NZ), which CIC sends off to get the police certificate. See here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/asia-pacific/new-zealand.asp

Print it, fill it out, scan it along with a scan of the required ID and attach it in a reply to the email they sent.

Pardon me, I was just reading from what the OP had included in the their post... "When original documents are requested, notarised documents are not acceptable."

Sorry I gave you wrong info...

The email is a bit misleading. I imagine that it is the standard email for requesting police certificates and they just insert the country name, which is misleading in this case because getting an NZ certificate is quite different from most other countries.

For NZ, CIC applies for the certificate on behalf of the applicant using the Consent form, whereas for other countries, the applicant has to apply for the certificates themselves and then send them to CIC, hence the request for originals.

The Consent form itself doesn't have to be the original, just signed (speaking from experience, as they lost my partner's Consent form that we submitted with his application and we emailed them the replacement).

I made the mistake of not searching for the information and just answering based on my experience which is nothing to do with NZ. Since my husband landed, I feel I am a bit "out of the game" when answering immigration questions. I hate giving out wrong/bad information so thank you for correcting my mistake. :D

Lol, no prob ;). As I said, it is different from other police certificate procedures and if I hadn't had to deal with this exact situation when CIC lost my partner's first Consent form, I prob would have said the same thing as you!

Not a problem at all!!! My initial response was thinking that I did have to send an original. I had the same thought as you! Which is why I asked, because I certainly didn't want to snail ANYTHING at this point! LOL!
Let it be donnneeee!

Hi there,
I happened to get the same request via email this morning and happened to find this post, thank god haha! I'm just little bit confused about one of the questions:

Where your application will First be submitted: Case processing centre Mississauga OR Case processing centre, Sydney, Nova scotia?

Also is this the PPR that people talk about or something totally different?

Thanks :)

Hi

PPR is different. It stands for "Passport Request". Non-visa exempts applicants need to send their passports to CIC to get a visa that allows them to enter Canada to land as a PR. If you are visa-exempt, you don't need to send your passport.

Your app was submitted to Mississauga first.

As I said in my posts above, you don't need to actually mail anything. Print the Consent to Disclosure of Information (NZ) form, fill it out, scan it along with a scan of the required ID and attach it in a reply to the email they sent.

Thank u, I did what u adviced me to do and now all I can do is wait I guess :D One more question since u definitely know what you are talking about, is the PPR going to come after this, then COPR? Also do u happen to know how long it usually takes for these background checks to be completed? Thanks again ;D

I believe only some offices request copies of the passport before issuing COPR. We went through London, which doesn't ask for the copies; they just issue the COPR. I'm not familiar with the Sydney office, so I suggest that you ask on the Sydney thread.

As for the background checks, no one can tell you how long those will take. It is entirely dependent on an applicant's personal history, where they've lived etc. Some can be finished quite quickly and others can take many months.
