Up-front Medical for Fiancé before submitting Application for Spousal Sponsorship in June

Hi everyone, looking for a clarification for my fiancé's medical that we have booked this Friday (In Toronto).

My fiance and I are getting married in June and submitting her application as my wife once we're married- rather than submitting a guaranteed disapproval of a conjugal relationship sponsorship ap... To be proactive, we've booked her Medical Exam In advance and it is this Friday.

Our thought is that the medical is valid for 12 months so if we do it 4 months in advance it will be okay, and we can send it with our app- we learned that this is not the case for the police clearance check and that we need to wait for request... Now the manager at this medical office is also telling us that it is the same way for the medical!

The manager informed me that she "believes" that we should wait to do her Medical until we are requested by CIC. The managers concern is, there is no option for the form to input "spousal sponsorship" as there is only 3 options to choose: Student, Worker, or Visitor.

She said that I should wait to have it requested, but is it not mandatory anyway? And would doing it before we submit our application in June- and sending it with our application not speed up the process?

Could we also do the Police Clearance Check in advance and submit it with the application too?

If the answer is that we need to wait until we are requested for one, that would be pretty "silly" as it is the exact same medical no matter if you're a student, Worker, or Visitor. And to that point, I argue the fact that my Fiancé is a Visitor and that that would be the box that she checks off for the medical... If not, we'll have to wait until June, then wait for the response, schedule another appointment with the medical centre and then take time to travel to toronto again for the appointment... Hopefully doing the up-front medical before a spousal sponsorship before submitting application is fine!!

Thank you so much in advance everyone!!

Medicals aren't submitted in advance, but upon their request. All of the average processing times already account for all these different requests, and you attempting to do the medical in advance without their request letter and form that you need to bring to the doctor's office won't do anything for your application. Wait for the request.

As for police certificates, your checklist should tell you whether to send them in right away or not. As far as I know, right now police checks and Schedule A need to be submitted upfront (this wasn't the case not that long ago), but refer to your checklist and guide to be sure, as they tend to change these things from time to time.

Thank you so much for your quick reply np08! I really appreciate it!

Ok so from what you said, my understanding is that I should cancel our appointment in 3 days, wait for the request after we submit the application, and then schedule an appointment then?

Regarding the form to bring in (I looked into this) and the IMM1017 form is no longer brought in by the applicant, the panel physician has the form at the office and fills it out electronically/physically.

Is there a possibility that they do not request for a medical?

Since we've already booked, set a side the time for travel, and payed fees for the medical, can we not proceed with it and hold on to the medical until it's requested after we submit it?

Regarding the Police Certificates, and Schedule A, my understanding is reversed and we can send this with the app?

As well, the medical report doesn't change whether it is a Student, Worker, or Visitor.

Does it change for a spouse?

Would her doing the exam for the sake of her actually checking her health (since we payed already) 4 months in advance jeopardize our sponsorship chances? And would they make us take another medical?

I did my medical a little over a year ago and I had to print out the med request and some other sheet of paper they sent and bring that to the doctor's office, regardless of the fact that the doctor does everything else from that point on (they submit electronically for you). That's what I was referring to, but of course, I don't know if they've made any changes since then.

There's no possibility of them not requesting a medical. It's a mandatory step for everyone, no exceptions.

You'd have to call them and see, I can't recall cases of people randomly doing the exam before the request. Or wait for some other replies.

Like I said, follow your checklist when it comes to police certificates and Schedule A. As far as I know, they are currently being sent upfront, with everything else, instead of there being a later request for them. But read your instructions to be sure.
