University of Victoria - Does MEng program require a supervisor?

I applied to the MEng Mechanical Program in University of Victoria for Fall 2015.

I received a reply citing that not only did my application arrived late but also I have find a supervisor for the program.

I was under the impression that MEng programs dont require supervisors while MASc requires a supervisor selecting you.
I have applied 4 other Universities in Canada in the past to MEng Programs and was never asked to select a supervisor..


Could some shed some light on this?

Is the case same for University of Saskatchewan as well?

Could anyone guide how do I go about approaching a supervisor?

I am planning to apply to UVic for MSc in Computer Science - Industrial Option..
Is supervisor required for this program?
Though it suggests that -
"Admission will be denied either: (a) because there is no supervisor available or (b) because the application is non-competitive (in which case a re-application will not be allowed)."

Should I approach a supervisor now?

Yes. Supervisor is mandatory requirement for any master program at UVic (or at least in Mech Dept.) as far as I know

Thanks for your inputs.. I wanted to apply on Dec 8th, i guess i need to find a supervisor before that and contact him.
I think this is the only university asking for a supervisor for a non -thesis program.

Hi,
I read so much in the university site that whether a supervisor is required or not, the answers are mostly inclined towards research programs.. I'll apply on Dec 8th, if I get a reply stating that I need to find a supervisor then I shall approach one.

The most important consideration in an admission decision made by potential supervisors is whether the faculty member is looking for new students and if there is a good match of research interests and background. A complete resume would be extremely helpful if you are unable to meet personally with faculty. Also read the suggestions on the application information page.
