Univeristy Transcript- Official and Unofficial Issue - Please advise

My son is going to York university Bachelor program and just completed 1st year this April. He is ready to apply for his citizenship on 25th April. As he is a full time ongoing student and need to provide his education document under 6.F (work/education).

Now he got the transcript for up to his recent course completion yesterday from York admin office in person but they Stamped in red ink on the transcript saying " ISSUED TO THE STUDENT " and at the bottom note says: Transcript issue to the student is not official. I am not sure whether CIC will accept this as is present education record.

Therefore, I went to check their website and found that if you need official transcript then the order online which will delivered by e-mail to 3rd party (I think which they mean is official). Please let me know if I need to order the official by mail or the one he picked by himself will be OK which is unofficial?

That's not the official version. You need to submit the sealed version issued by the registrar's office.

The registrar's office should be able to issue one within a couple of days. CIC does not receive anything via e-mail.

i don't understand how a transcript issued via email is official. anyone can modify and print it. usually the office prints the transcript, puts it in an envelope and seals it from outside. i would advise your son to visit the admin office again and request an "official" transcript. what you mentioned is the same way we used to get unofficial transcripts.

Yes, he just logged in his student account and placed an new one putting Attention: My name and home address paying $15 fees it processed and hopefully they will send my regular mail with a week time.

So, once I receive it with sealed envelop should I open the envelop and send a copy of it? Because this transcript/document is to show as proof of ongoing student along with his 9 to 12 grade school report cards (from 2010 til 2014). He will send his Canadian high school diploma under language proof check list.

no no no. never open the sealed envelope. that seal is what making it "official". people have hit their head on the wall all night long for this

All educational transcripts have to be stamped and placed in a sealed envelope BY the School/Uni etc..

Well, you are indeed only required to send a photocopy of it (as per "Document Checklist").
I sent the original version in the sealed envelope, just to be safe.

From CIC website:

" 4. Education Records

Provide photocopies of all your official education records if you attended an educational institution in the four (4) years immediately before the date of your application. Official education records are:

report cards; or
transcripts; or
attendance records ... "

if it's only photocopy that is needed, then one wouldn't need an official transcript. just a printout from the web would work as well.

but it is advisable to send the official copy, to make it more secure.

So the transcript will be sent to my name and address.. Is this OK ? as I can not put CIC name as addressee. Once I receive the mail in my name with sealed envelop I just attach the entire envelop as is?

There is a huge difference between the printed version (a.k.a student version), and the official transcript issued by the registrar's office.

i believe the photocopies are mainly for report cars and/or degree/diplomas. you wouldn't send the original obviously. for transcripts, printouts work just as well.

There is a huge difference between the printed version (a.k.a student version), and the official transcript issued by the registrar's office.

i hear you. just saying IF they don't need official transcripts then printed one will do too. one can send the admission letter photocopy as well if the degree isn't complete.

I think as per 6.F they need official school record. In that case the main difference is, the one picked up by student in person considered as Unofficial and the one they will post mail to 3rd person (Parent or others) considered as Official one.

best would be to send the official transcript (in the sealed envelope) and a copy of your son's admission letter that states when the courses start/end.
