If you are claiming points for foreign work experience under CEC, are you suppose to provide Reference Letter for those jobs as well ? Canadian experience is the most recent one and reference letter is available for this job. Appointment Letter, pay stubs and reliving letters are available for past jobs but not the reference letter. Is it a must to have document ?

Please advice, Thanks in advance.

Yes, if you're claiming points for it, you need a reference letter.

Hello istari/aneelkanth/other senior members,

Appreciate your time and help.

I have consistently found inconsistent answers to this question across the board, which makes the situation more confusing. I am quoting some of the responses from senior members of this forum which I have found on other threads. I request to other members to help me in eliminating the dearth of clarity.

If you get an invitiation to apply (ITA) for the CEC class, then you would only need the letters from Canadian employers (past 3 years). If your ITA specifies the federal skilled worker FSW program, then you would need letters covering the last 10 years.

I have a very short window to submit my PR application, which is why I will have to prep all the documents before hand, so that I can apply for BOWP. Any clarity on this query will be really helpful.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks

If that's what jes_ON says, then go with that.

Answer is clear. If you claimed CRS points for your foreign work experience, you need those letters too. If you apply under CEC, foreign work experience is not mandatory, but for CRS reasons you still need the letters. You can claim CRS points for Canadian work experience (last 3 years) and foreign work experience (last 10 years, if I'm not mistaken)

Thanks for that vote of confidence, but to be sure, I only didn't say this -

If you are getting points for foreign work experience, you will need the letters for those jobs too (or alternative documentation). If you can't prove it, do not claim it.

Thanks for that vote of confidence, but to be sure, I was simplifying. Those quotes were early in the EE program, we all were still learning (and CIC's requirements evolving). And I didn't say this -

If you can't prove it, do not claim it. If you don't need it (for points), don't claim it.

Hi jes_ON,

I have work experience from back home which I can't prove since I do not have a reference letter to support it. I did mention these work experiences (did not submitted any reference letters, nor did CIC request) in my study permit application when I came to Canada, 3 years later from that initial study permit application.... I have completed my Masters program and have 1 year of Canadian work experience obtained on PGWP which qualifies me under CEC.

If I chose to omit this work experience (for which I cannot prove), that would not be consistent with the information that I have previously provided in my applications.

You said .... "If you can't prove it, do not claim it."

If I mention these work experiences in "Work Experience" tab in the express entry profile. would that mean I am claiming it?

What do you suggest?

Thank you for your response in advance.

To the extent that IRCC will look at that, they will look at your employment history on your PR application. The EE Expression of Interest is not your PR application - you will have to complete the PR application only if you get an ITA. Then, you will need to provide complete details on your PR application.

Yes.

I see, I think I am slowly getting the picture. Let me break it down for my better understanding.....

1. So the electronic form/application I am completing online for the Express Entry is just the "Expression of interest for PR"?

2. and I should ONLY provide Work experience and education that I want to claim points for in this electronic application?

2(i) this would mean that I should also not put in the education info for which I do not have the ECA for?

Once I get the ITA on this EOI application for Express Entry, I will then have to worry about the actual PR application and my assessment would begin then on what I can prove and what I can't ?

So at this point when I am filling our the Express Entry application (to receive an ITA), I can leave out the information that I am not claiming points for and this would not be seen as "omission" of information?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your responses jon_on and istari,

I am going to submit my express entry profile (Pre ITA phase) with only the Canadian work experience now and will mention all my work experience from back home if invited to apply for APR?

However, I was just getting cold feet with reading the part under the first heading at CIC's official website (cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/invitations)

I hope providing lesser information now (in Pre ITA phase) and providing complete information in the APR will not be seen as misrepresentation of myself.

Thanks.
