Dear all,
I have applied for migrating to canada under federal skilled migration catageory.I have filed with the help of an immigration agent. The agent has sent me a mail mentioning the file number recently he has received from CIC for my case. While I tried to check the status of my application in the "Check My Application Status " in the CIC website,I am getting the message "We were not able to identify you using the information you provided".I am sure that I have given all the correct inputs(last name,Date of Birth & Country).Whether this is a common issue or will it take time for CIC to update the file number details in their website. The agent told me is that since I have filled my case from canada, you wont be able to check your status in the "Check My Application Status ".Is it true or whether the agent is fooling me.Since the agreement with the agent is that I have to pay the fee only after getting the file number,I am in confusion that he has simply made a pdf stating that it is the file number he has received for my case from CIC,Please any one help me out in this. Thanks a lot.

1. Does the file no. start with a B then 8 or 9 digits? otherwise it is not valid.
2. The agent didn't file in Canada, he would have file to the office that services your country of residence.
3. Play around on logging into ecas, make sure your country is correct, for example don't use UK use England, Try putting in your full name, or just first and last, or last, then first.
4. He should have sent you the AOR (acknowledgment letter from CHC)

1) Yes,the file number starts with B followed by a 9 digit number.
2) I have filled my case after november 2008 and hence we are supposed to sent application to sydney, nova scotia,Canada and not in my native country.
3) I tried with all the possibilities.
4) He havent sent me any acknowledgment letter from CHC
5) Is there any other way ( than checking in the CIC website ) to check whether the file number I received is genuine or whether the agent is fooling me.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

lippan,

Several others, including myself, have the same issue. The e-cas is returning the same error message. So, maybe your agent is not at fault here - FYI.

Heya All,
I have same problem My agent gave ma file number which start with "B" and I anable to check status online on canadian website. After that I spoken with them and they told me that this file number is acually receipt number and you file was submitted in sydney office and after review your file if they will approve your they file they will again issue actual file number which also start with B.

So if any other issue then also let me know...even i m confused....

Please inform your file no. starting with B.......... and your full name and your date of birth DD/MM/YYYY and your country of Birth and name of the place where it is filed and I shall come back to you with the status, DONT WORRY, all info you pass on will be held in absolute confidence.

Lippan, I was genuinely trying to help, I am not forcing you to send the details, please aplly your mind, what vested interest can I possibly have by knowing your details, I leave the rest to your wisdom.

Hi,

Are you sure you are setting Identification Type to "Immigration File Number"? The default value there is "Identification Type". Please set it to "Immigration File Number" if your number indeed starts with a B.

Regards,
flake

Dear Seniors,

I have submitted my initial application to CIO on 10June10, I received my AOR on 12OCT10,while I tried to check the status of my application in the "Check My Application Status " in the CIC website,I am getting the message "We were not able to identify you using the information you provided". However, I am 100% sure that I have inputted right information as per the status checking requirments. I have also tried to check my application status on the Surname/Family same section by inputing my full name, first name & last name but no luck.

Is there anybody who can assist me in this regard.

Thanks
