Hello all,

My wife is. UK citizen. I am a Canadian citizen.
She just got her landed paper in canada early January. However, we have not received her PR card yet.
She would like to visit her family members in UK. She is looking to travel during the first week of March. Travelling to UK will not be a problem, but retuning to Canada might be.
Q1. Is it safe for me to ship out her PR card if it arrives after she leaves for UK?
Q2. Could there be any problems for her when she's coming back to Canada with her PR card.
Q3. If we don't receive her PR card before her return date to Canada, is it easy for her apply for a PRTD?
Q4. I read about applying for PRTD, but I'm a bit confused about the 730 Days, please elaborate about the 730 Days of residency.

Thank you.

As a British passport holder she doesn't need an entry visa so doesn't need a travel doc. She can technically walk in as a visitor for a six month stay but immigration will see that she has permanent residency.

Hello,

Thank you for the response.
She may be able to get away with just her UK passport, however if Immigration pick up the fact that she's PR, they may ask for the PR Card or PRTD. Hence, the questions above.

Thank you,

All they will need is to see her landing papers (COPR)... The PR card and PRTD are just for getting onto the aircraft. All the rest can be done without them.

When getting onto the aircraft, would it be okay for her to simply show her UK passport? When landing she can show the Landed paper? or will she definately need a PR card/PRTD when boarding the plane.

Thanks

She shows her UK passport, just as if she was a tourist/visitor. She makes NO mention of PR status.
At the POE, at the Primary Inspection Line, she THEN declares that she is a PR and shows her landing papers...

When they scan her UK passport before boarding the plane, wouldn't they know that she's PR in Canada? If so, they would ask for a PR Card or PRTD. Wouldn't they?

Thanks

You are worrying about this WAY too much.. Stop over-thinking it...
They will have no idea about her Canadian status. It's really a non-issue.

You're right, I am worried as we never did something like this before.
However, I would really appreciate it if I can have someone answer the four questions that I asked in the beginning of this topic.

Thank you

The airline needs to makes sure you can be admitted into Canada because if you get bounced at the border they get the tab to return you home. She has a visitor visa exempt passport so no visa issues here but the check in agent can sweat her if she doesn't have a return ticket. Presumably she is using the return portion of a round trip ticket? So this means the check in agent may take the view she is travelling on a single ticket - they are ok with this if you have a PR Card or a Canadian Passport.

Check with the airline as to their policy - some e.g Air Canada don't care about PR Card if you have a visitor visa exempt passport. If the airline has an issue she may have to purchase a ticket out of Canada - if this is the case get one she can cancel for a refund.

When she shows up at the Canadian POE she shows her COPR and they will find her details in the system. She will be admitted in ok. She will be sent to Secondary though so its not going to be a 10 minute swing by immigration!

The check in scan is for the bio data to be forwarded to CBSA - they know you are enroute while you are having your snacks mid Atlantic!

Don't bother with a PRTD as she has the visitor visa exempt advantage. For the PRTD you have to go via a 3rd party VAC in suburban London...the Canadian High Commission Immigration Section isn't a fun place

The airline does not have access to system CIC would have access to so they could not look up her PR status. So they would not know. If they could, that would be better for her because then the airline can confirm she is a PR and they would have no reservations about her ability to enter Canada.
