UK Citizen Emmigration --> London, Ontario (Want To Join Police)

Hello all, I wonder if someone can help me!

Firstly, some background details:
- I have a half-brother who lives in London, Ontario (full CA citizen) with his wife and 2 children
- I am a former reserve soldier and former civilian policeman (served for 4 years in each)
- I am 24 years old, male and live in the UK

Basically, I want to move to London (ON) to be with my family and to start a new life. I really want to join the London Police Service or Ontario Provincial Police. The problem I'm facing is that I'm not a CA citizen / permanent resident and this is a requirement to join the police. I'm also getting this on the CIC website: "Not eligible to immigrate under a federal program."


I'm facing a paradox:
- To join the police I must be permanent resident / citizen.
- To get permanent residency / citizenship I must have a job offer.

I can't do one, because the other one stops me (and vice versa)!!!!


Has anyone got any idea how I can apply to join the police whilst living in the UK... or has anyone got any other suggestions?

Yes - your options unfortunately look limited.

You definitely need to be a PR or citizen for any police force to accept your application. So I don't see how getting a job with them before becoming a PR will be feasible.

Ontario has a Provincial Nominee immigration program - but you need a job offer in Ontario to qualify to apply.

Your half brother can't sponsor you so family class immigration is out.

You mentioned that you're a former police man. What are you doing now? Can you try to obtain a job offer in this occupation or qualify to immigrate through this occupation?

Another option would be to apply for a working holiday visa next year which would allow you to work and live in Canada for a year (if you qualify). Unfortunately this is a temporary visa only so you still won't be able to work as a police officer. But it will get you to Canada for a year to work:

Thanks scylla - I'm unemployed at the mo and don't hold any "trade" training (police / army experience doesn't count unfortunately).

Think I will have a look into the Provincial Nominee program you mentioned - cheers for that ;D
