I wanted to start a thread for U.S.-based and/or educated individuals who are planning on making Canada home. The reasons for moving from U.S. to Canada could vary -- H1B expiring, long wait for the U.S. Green Card, L1B visa expiring or any other reasons. But the point is, as U.S.-educated individuals, is it really worth for us to move to Canada? No offense to Canadians or people who are applying for Canadian immigration from elsewhere (developing countries), but Canada is a country where our U.S.-honed skills and education is not valued much. Moreover, Canada is a U.S. lapdog -- a dumping ground for anything and everything that the U.S. finds unsavory. Whatever is left over by USA is hogged by Canada. I have known many individuals who have become frustrated with Canada, after living in the U.S. for many years. While it is OK for individuals from developing countries to think of Canada as "heaven on Earth", we guys have seen the BEST in USA. Should we settle for the leftovers?

What are your thoughts as a U.S.-educated individual or as someone who has worked in the U.S. for long and is now forced to think of Canada as a back-up option?

P.S: This thread is ONLY meant for people who are educated and/or based in the U.S., and are thinking of applying for Canadian immigration or have already applied. BTW, I already have a Canadian PR as back-up, but am not sure if I will ever feel like using it, after traveling to Canada a few times and coming to the conclusion that majority of Canadians are DUMB AS ****. Even smart Canadians are moving to the USA for good.

I have a slightly different opinion. I don't see Canada as a dumping ground for people that US finds unsavory. I rather see it as taking advantage of the talents that US fails to recognize and appreciate. I don't exactly know why you think you have seen the BEST in the USA, but seems like that is a fallacious statement. To me, it is the best only in that living costs are fairly inexpensive for a developed country. You might argue that its higher education system and science and technology fields are the best in the world, to which i say only for now! Just wait a few years or decades and situation will change within our lifetime. One of the contributing factors for US doing better in these sectors is international students, researcher and scholars. The same people that you claim are "unsavory" to the US. I wonder who will benefit when these talented people are increasingly being employed by Canada instead of the US! Many people migrate not only for themselves but for their offspring too. So, people wanting to move to Canada are not necessarily being "dumped" to Canada, they might be actively making that choice realizing that the future of Canada looks better than that of the US.

Migrating to any country is a BIG decision, and a decision that many (including those in the US) would take in a heartbeat. I don't understand why somebody like you that doesn't like Canada, and doesn't intend to migrate to Canada would even apply for a canadian PR and deny somebody else that chance.

And when you say that most canadians are dumb as*** and the smart ones move to the USA, I have to wonder what your definition of dumb is! Because to me, it is the opposite.

I am in the same situation in which you are.I have US education as well as US experience.When I hear that Canadians do not want to employ people from other countries including US. then I personally feel that they are either dumb or suffering from some inferiority complex.I can understand if they are not recognizing education credentials of the people from the developing countries.However,I fail to understand why they have same thinking towards people having US.education as well as experience. In my opinion,People who have worked in US. would like to say and continue in US. unless they are forced due to the reasons which you have already mentioned.Nine out of ten people would like to stay in US. provided they have status and can get green card in short time.

I have PR as well but I am not sure If i will be able to make a move to Canada because I would like to stay in US which is considered best,As far as Canada is concerned, it will always be considered second best.

Though I have PR.However,I am going to do my best to stay in US and if my plan works the way I want then I will give up my PR.

@MattUSA

I think you need to stay in a place where your comfortable in ie US ..... There is no use moving from US to Canada where your credentials are not recognised and spend a lot getting an US education .
If your current visas are expiring , you have every opportunity to go to your home country where your credentials are recognised more ...
