Hi Guys,

Submitted my online work permit application (LMO based) and open work permit for my wife today.

Applied to the Canadian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City via CIC website.

Anyone else on this forum that has applied in Vietnam? Can you please advise timelines?

Many thanks.

Hi Guys,

I provide this as reference for anyone wanting to know the timeline for TWP applications submitted to the Ho Chi Minh Consulate:

LMO applied: 29 July 13
LMO received: 11 Oct 13
NOC: 0711

Work permit submitted: 12 Oct 13. TWP for myself and OWP-S for my spouse.
Received medical instructions: 21 Oct 13
Medicals done: 8 Nov 13 at Care1. Care1 are professional and upload documents online. They complete uploading results of your medical exams quickly.
Medicals uploaded to CIC: 12 Nov 13
Passport Request: 20 Nov 13
Passport Submitted: 25 Nov 13
Visa Received: 26 Nov 13
POE LOI Received: 26 Nov 13

Please note that it takes up to 5 to 6 weeks to obtain police clearance in Vietnam from the department of Justice. There are 2 types of certificates you can apply for. You have to apply for "No.2". So start this process early.

It is advisable to take advice and submit application to the VFS in Ho Chi Minh. They are very helpful.

Even though the website currently says it takes up to 7 months for work permit approval, in reality, if your documents are in order and if you apply during off season (Oct thru Feb - low season for study permits), chances are that your work permit gets processed much faster than the published durations in CIC website.

Best Regards,
Michael
