Just got an email back from the FBI regarding fingerprinting. Here's a good way to save you 4000 rupees if you do it properly :)

Good Afternoon,

We do recommend that a professional take the fingerprints, this cuts down on rejected prints. If you wish to take the prints yourself, as long as they are in the correct position on the card and the quality is clear, they will be accepted. You may print the FD-258 off our website at fbi.gov/checks. You may print off the card on regular printer paper. We will accept the prints taken with ink. Thank you!

Taking fingerprints is not that easy. Sure, you can do it yourself, but the chance of them being rejected is much higher than if you have professionals do it for you.

I wouldn't cut corners here to save a few bucks. Nothing is more frustrating than having your fingerprints rejected after 10 weeks of waiting.
+1.

It's been a good few years, but I *still* have nightmares over the fiasco I experienced with *professional* fingerprinting being done & rejected 5 flipping times ...

I just called CIC. They said they Didn't have an answer. It is decided on a case by case basis. I think this is nonsense. Either you have or have not lived in a country for 6 or more months. It shouldn't matter where the head office if your employer is based! As I do not have a UCI can someone here send a case specific enquiry and ask for a ruling with documentation? That would be helpful to all.

(Erm... Is this on the right thread?)
