Well, I also have an Indian passport and have an old and a new one and I wasn't told to carry them together. I think you need to carry both/all your passports if you have valid visas on them - I might be wrong, but I think carrying a bag load of passports just doesn't make any sense if there isn't any valid visa on them.
 
You usually want to carry the last old passport you've previously used to enter a country. From my international travel experience, it's not absolutely paramount to have it, but I've found they usually ask for it.

I'm not sure how is that different to Canada/ PR status etc. I suspect you will only need to carry your valid passport. Having said that, since you're going to be a Permanent Resident in Canada, I don't see why you shouldn't take all your important documents along with you. They are not of much use when they are not where you live.
 
You should be fine ith just your new passport.

It was interesting to hear that others have travelled with more than one passport before or staple them together. Never heard of that before.

Personally, I have had 3 passports and I have never used any of the expired ones ever again.

Bcz new in passport also should have previous passport details
Also pr visa in new passport also his copr has new passport details

So I agree just new one should carry
