Hello everyone,
I apologize if this is a repeat question, but I needed some additional information

I am currently an international student, graduating at the end of June 2019. Both of my study permit and visa will expire on 30th July 2019. I was hoping to travel back home at the end of June 2019 and return by 22-23rd July so I can have a few days to successfully apply for a Postgraduate work permit. My question is, will I be allowed to reenter Canada when both of my SP and visa are expiring within 7 days.

thank you.

Hi there,

You will be allowed to do so and If you have all documents like Letter of completion and transcripts, you can apply for PGWP at the Port of Entry ( when you will be coming back) or you could do it later on. You will be having 180 days to apply for PGWP but as your status is going to expire by 30 July 2019, you need to do it before this.

Hello,
Thank you so much for replying. I called cic in the morning and asked if I will be allowed to enter canada. they told me that its at the discretion of the airport staff and I may be denied to enter. I was just wondering if you have heard if its common for the airport staff to deny entry even if you have a valid status?
I had no idea we can also apply at port of entry, i will definitely look into it. When you apply through the port of entry is the processing time same as applying a paper application or is it immediate?
Thank you all your help.

Your visa doesn't guarantee you or anyone with a temporary visa entry into Canada. It is always at the discretion of the officer. I think that's what they mean.

Hello,
Thank you for replying.
And yes I understand that now, but I was just wondering if its usually common for them to deny entry even with valid status?
Thanks.

As long as you are having a valid status they can not deny you and for your work permit, It should be issued immediately. (maybe in an hour or so.)

And one more thing, if for any reason you are not able to have it done at POE. you should apply for PGWP before your status got expired and you will be on Implied status in the meantime.

Kind regards,

This is not totally true given only PRs and citizens cannot be denied entry. Everyone else is assessed afresh at each entry as the OP has been told and could in theory be denied entry whether they have a valid permit or not.

Whether in reality this is likely to happen if someone has a valid permit is probably unlikely as long as everything is still valid but never any guarantees Not something the OP should over think or worry about too much
