Hi all, long time no see. I hope you all keeping safe and sound.

I had a question, so the situation is, my mother has about 7 months left of her 5 year TRV (visit visa)

I heard that she would not be able to travel to Canada once the validity of her VISA is less than 6 months.

Basically, can she take a 2-3 week trip to Canada if, (for eg) she has 3-4 months left on her VISA, can she go?

Thanks in advance :)

1. A TRV is valid for use up to the expiry date.

Hi much appreciated, I don't know what I had this impression that you cannot enter Canada if you have 6 or less months left on the TRV. Thanks for clearing that up :)

Always check the official sources, do not assume :)

Secondly, I think she can stay beyond her expiry date as long as her stay will be less than 6 months. The reason I say this is because a visa is just a document to allow you to enter the country. Once you enter, you have 6 months to leave. This is just what I think so I suggest you call IRCC to confirm it.

This is correct in the sense that the validity date does not reflect when a visitor must leave but the last day of entry using that visa.

The leave to stay is determined at border - and is typically six months after the date of entry.
