TRV- Waiting Since 2016

Dear All,
Me and my wife applied for TRV in 2016. Again, in March 2018, linked the same application online and receive a letter saying that "we are checking it for secondary clearance" but for two weeks it appears " We are processing your application...,,"
May I request anyone to reply as to What it means and how long it likely to take as we need to attend graduation ceremony of our daughter in January 2019. We visited in 2008 and in 2011.

When exactly did you apply?

Are you employed by the government, defense services, judiciary, police, etc. in your home country? Have you lived in a high-risk country?

Apologies for being late to reply. Yes, I have retd from Bangladesh Army in December 2018. But, while in service , I have visited Canada in 2008, my family ( me , wife and two children) have visited Canada in 2011 and my wife alone visited again in 2015.
Hope you will suggest me.Regards.

If background checks are in progress then there's nothing you can do but to wait. This could take several weeks or months depending on the level of investigations that IRCC is doing.

Your previous TRV was granted prior/in 2011. Any new background checks would possibly be for the tenure of your army service until your recent retirement
