Hi Guyz,

I am a Permanent Resident of Canada along with my wife and 3 year old son since July 2016.
We are currently living in British Columbia.
We applied for TRV online for my In-Laws (FIL and MIL) together on December 8th and Got rejection on December 22nd.
The reason for the Rejection:
1) Based on purpose of visit.
2) Based on personal ties in Canada and Country of Residence.

My FIL is a retired person and currently earning pension since 2016 and my MIL is a housewife.

For Purpose of visit we has mentioned that they will be visiting us to celebrate the birthday of their Grandson in January and to visit some beautiful places in BC for a month.

we had attached itinerary for return flight.
detailed day to day plan for visiting places from Jan 5 to feb 8!
Hotel booking for a hill station in BC.
Birthday invitation card.

For Families ties we had attached proof of property(Agriculture land and House) and also mentioned that my FIL takes care of the agriculture land. we had also attached pension slips.
On relationship we had mentioned that they live as a joint family with my 2 Brothers and their wives and grand children and also taking care of my ailing grandmother who is 87 year old who lives with them on the same address. For Canada I has attached my Passport, PR card and my Bank statements to prove relationship.

Now my Question to you is what went wrong?

What can I do to address these issues?

we are planning to reapply only for my MIL this time , do you think this will make any difference?

what more proofs can we submit to satisfy VO that my MIL who doesn't know english and is almost 55 year old has no intentions to stay/work here forever?

PS: I had applied TRV for my Mother in the moth of August this year and she got 10 year multiple entry TRV, This application was somewhat similar to that of my Mother except that we had included my Father in Law in the application this time and we only intend TRV for my MIL.

What amount of liquid savings did they show? Your in-laws must show that they can pay for all their travail expenses and not exhaust most of their savings even if you will be financially supporting them in Canada.

They Showed around cad100k in assets and around 17000 cad in liquid cash. We also provided bank statements, pension slip, papers for land and house with a report from Chartered Accountant, valuation report with details regarding house and agricultural land and some gold.

In invitation letter we did mention that they Will bear all travelling and lodging costs themselves. And also mentioned if required we can also help them financially.

A 1 month trip to BC could eat up a large portion of their savings. I would apply for a visit of 2-3 weeks. Slightly too late since you asked for 1 month already but if you reapply I would go for a shorter time.

Thank you.

1) Do you think applying for my MIL only will make any difference?
2) How much time should we wait to reapply?
3) What proofs can I provide for my MIL’s stronger ties with country of residence?e.g Sworn Affidavit etc because she is a housewife and my FIL will support her financially!
4) What reason can I mention for her visit here? Because she just wants to come here to meet her daughter and specially her 3 year old grandson who is so dear to her.

I don’t understand one thing, we are Permanent Residents since 2016 and if my in laws had any intentions to come here and never go back why wouldn’t they have just applied in 2016 or 2017? Visa officer should think about it.

Thank you again for your prompt reply.

1. Only your MIL helps because your FIL creates ties at home.
2. You can reapply now since it would be best to try and use the same reason for consistency.
3. Family, property, needing to return to a country to receive a pension, job, etc. Those are the big ones but anything that show she needs to be at home. Your father just needs to include a letter saying he will support your mothers travels and attach proof of their liquid savings.
4. Would continue with the child’s birthday or family visit if there is a delay in the approval. Would write out an itinerary of what you will be doing while she is in Canada. Would also include that she will be taking out travel health insurance.

Many parents arrive in Canada on a supervisa or TRV with no intention of ever leaving. Doesn’t have to be right away but certainly applying for a TRV the month a child immigrates is a warning sign for CIC. Not relevant for your case. Would reduce the stay request to 2-3 weeks. When your MIL arrives she will likely be awarded a 6 month stay and then can stay the month. She does need to arrive with a return ticket. She may not be allowed to fly without one. If your MIL returns home after her visit there will be a much better chance of the FIL.
