Hello Experts,

I have a PR and my fiance is an Indian citizen. We started talking to each other since December 2018, we were introduced by our respective families. I went to India in Feb 2019 and we took a trip and we spent 4 days together and in March we got engaged. It was just immediate family and a very small ring exchange ceremony as we both did not wanted a grand party. After engagement, we almost spent 20 days together. Both families decided on December 2019 for marriage. Now her maternal grandmother is very sick(almost at the point where she can die within few weeks) and families have decided to move forward with the wedding as in our culture upon death of close relative we will have to wait for at least one year as we cannot have celebration during mourning period(which is one year in our case). So I am planning to go to India next week and get married in Arya samaj wedding which is full marriage with all hindu rituals. We both wanted to get married like this where we do not have to spend 20-30 lakhs, we would rather invest that money.

Now the tricky part is. my fiance, her father and mother they wanted to take a trip to Canada during this summer, they applied for TRV in June and it was rejected in a first week of July. Is that going to affect spousal sponsorship application in any ways? Simple wedding like in Arya samaj, will that affect application?

I am going to India for 15 days and we are planning to go to honeymoon for 3 days as well.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance. :)

In my opinion and based on what I have read in the past the TRV rejection should not be an issue until you get rejected several times. The spousal sponsorship and TRV are two diff application and each are reviewed in its own merit. Ensure that during the application that there is consistency of information between the two apps (trv and pr). As for a small wedding, i think CIC does expect to have close relatives and friends to be present during the wedding with members from both families there. As long as it is not courthouse wedding but a traditional wedding with a priest and prayer component with a relatively modest crowd of close friends and family then you should be okay. Ensure you collect all the information about your past correspondence. If you sent gifts and if you have reciepts for them, then it is great. If you have photos of your trip and photos with each family visits (when you met their family or vice versa) tickets hotel recoepts etc. You should be good. It is about clear documentation and communication. The more proof you show the better off you are. More proof does not mean sendin 100 pictures of the same event. But construct a timeline through your proof then you should be okay.

The refusal won’t be an issue for sponsorship. You will have to return and remain in Canada to sponsor her. And explain the reasons to push the wedding up and the simple ceremony. A TRV after marriage will be difficult, but not impossible. Be prepared to spend 12 months apart before she can come here.

Thank you for your input vinothku and Bluetruck. Do I really have to mention why we push up our wedding? From VO's point of view, we just got married in July and he is not going to know that we were planning to get married in December?

My main concern is me going to India for only 15 days for wedding and Honeymoon. Should that be a problem?
