Hi All,
I applied for my father's visitor visa and the application was refused on the following grounds:
1. based on your family ties in Canada and in your country of residence.
2. based on the purpose of your visit
3. based on your personal assets and financial status

I recently got approved for Super Visa for my mom, she is a home maker. Since she is coming soon as my wife is pregnant (due to deliver in Aug), I applied for a visitor visa for my father thinking it will be quicker in terms of processing times. This will help in both coming together

The financial assets available for him were in a joint account held with my mother. I had already shared this account with IRCC when I applied for her Super Visa as financial resources. The balance was around CAD 10k. Other than this no other personal assets were disclosed.

My father is retired since over 5 years, I wrote a sponsorship letter and provided my financial details. I also mentioned the reason for visit is birth of his grand child and he wants to be a part of this milestone. I am a Canadian PR with enough income and assets to sponsor him. The difficult part is showing assets in his name in India.

I am planning to apply for a Super Visa. Please advise if it will work, or is there something else that I should try.
Also in the earlier application, i said he will stay here for 4 months, now when I apply for Super Visa I will have to say he will stay for over 6 months. Won't this become contradictory?

Please advise.

Your mother got her supervisa because she had strong ties to India that showed that she wouldn't just move here for good - your father.

However, now your father is applying for a visa, and you told IRCC that his whole family is here. So they think that he won't go back. He doesn't have any ties to India since his wife is coming with him. That's the "family ties" reason for refusal

In addition, did you say something like "coming to help with the birth of my child", or words to that effect? That is a big no-no, since that sounds like working (childcare) on a tourist visa. Yes, I know this sounds odd, but it's a very common mistake made especially by people from India. Also, 4 months may sound like a short time to you, but to IRCC it sounds like a very long time just to be "present at the birth". They will think you're trying to get free childcare.

That's the "purpose of visit" refusal

Finally, it's the assets in India. Yes, you said you were willing to sponsor him, but when you add this to points one and two (he has no reason to go back to India, he may be "working" here), and you see that he has no financial reason to return either, such as a house, or property, etc.

So that's probably why he got rejected.

This will not stop you from applying for a Super Visa, though they may look more carefully at his application. No, it's not a contradiction to say that he will stay for more than six months. You will still have to meet all the Super Visa criteria, and prove that your parents will not become de-facto immigrants.

Thanks for the response. It was quite helpful. Seems the damage is done.. I have 2 approaches, please advise what to take.

First approach:
1. Reapply for visitor visa but with stay period of 2-3 weeks instead of 4 months
2. Write an explanation that my father lives jointly with his brothers in his ancestral home
3. Show a valuation certificate for some jewellery/ Gold he owns (as assets)
4. Purpose - tell that my sister is in India, and is living in the same city. She is a family connection which will ensure he wants to go back
5. Attach a medical proof that my wife is pregnant and due in August to deliver.

Second approach:
1. Apply for Super Visa

Thanks for your help.
