No need to notarize, it is not a public document. The "invitation letter" to CIC is not the same as the invitation to the applicant, and is much more a request to CIC to issue a visa to the applicant, for the purpose of the visit. Here you reiterate the purpose of the visit, and add details, such as duration and financial support for the applicant during the visit. This is also called as a letter of introduction/letter of request or statement of financial support by others and it serves to fill in the gaps as to the details of the visit and who provides financial support to the traveller...
