TRV Inside Canada due to open work permit but currently unemployed

Hello, here is our situation below:

We did get a TRV after we obtained our open work permits - however our passports were close to expiry so we only got 2 year visas. Now that we renewed our passports and have 10 more years, we want apply and hopefully get another visa on the new passport stamped. Are we supposed to follow the same steps as the original TRV ? We are also unemployed currently - would that become an issue ? The form is asking current employment status so we were not sure to leave that blank.

As a side note this is an open work permit received after PGWP so I've been out of college and working for the past 4 years - just unemployed at the moment.

We are not looking for an extension on the permit. We are looking to get TRV stamped on our new passport(but we initially got TRV right after we got the permits to our older passports)

You aren’t guaranteed a longer TRV so if your TRV expiry date coincides with your WP I would not suggest applying for a TRV. IRCC is not longer giving out 10 years multiple entry TRVs as a default like they had in the past. Given your temporary status IRCC will likely want to reassess your situation after your WP expires before authorizing a new TRV.
