Hello,

I know that Ukranians in the past have had a difficult time getting a tourist visa.
With everything going on now is it near to impossible to get one?

I'd like to Invite my GF for a few weeks.
I believe she has everything against her that would allow her to get a Visa.

She's 28. Lives with her mom, Doesn't have more then 500$ in her account. She doesn't have a an Official Job. Only positive would be maybe that she currently has a Euro Visa and she's had it a few times in the past with good records.

We have been together for 1 year and have traveled many places this Past year in Ukraine and Europe.

We plan on getting married in the very near future but would like her to meet my family and Friends and see how she likes Canada.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions that would be great. Thanks!

No - lower chance if you try to bring her as a fiancee since it will be pretty clear to CIC that she has plans to stay in Canada long term.

As you've said, her profile is unfortunately quite weak. There's really no much she can do but apply and hope for the best.

If she gets declined as a TRV, does that go against when I would want to sponsor her as my wife?

No - it won't. Go ahead and try for the TRV - you may get lucky.

Thanks Scylla.

Because she doesn't have any assets or really any ties, how else can I boost her chances?

Have people without $$ or really anything to go back home to have gotten TRV?

I feel I dont want to waste my time if she has only a 1% chance of getting a TRV.

Maybe better just to get Married and apply right away for sponsorship that way we get the ball rolling......

If she only has only $500 in her account then the cost of applying for a TRV, that she probably won't get, is pretty significant. Don't bother applying for the TRV and just start the PR process.

Would it be fair to say that she pretty much has no chance of getting a 2 week TRV?

I really would like for her to see my family and friends here.

If I do get Married to her in the Ukraine, how long would it take before she would actually be able to travel to Canada?

Thanks for the replies.

I tried to take the same route as you did. Bring my then-gf to Canada for a visit so she can meet my family and friends before marrying. But she was refused. To the surprise of my family and friends at home, I married a girl they never met. Thank you, CIC.

Being married makes no difference to the TRV. It only satisfies the "Family Ties" requirement. But they will refuse her if she has no money, no job, no house etc. You're only options to bring her to Canada are:

Apply for TRV - Very low chance of success
Live with her for 12 consecutive months in Ukraine then apply for common law PR
Get married and apply for spousal PR

Time it would take for her to come to Canada: Give yourself about 1.5-3 months preparing the PR application + 2 months waiting for sponsorship approval + about 4 to 12 months for PR approval (depending on how straightforward your case is).

Best of luck!

This guy knows what he is talking about!

etienbjel, you haven't updated your timeline since May of last year.
Did your wife finally arrive in Canada?

May? That's weird. I've been pretty active on here recently.

No, I'm still waiting for DM. Only 2 months since I was approved as the sponsor. And our application went through Singapore :(

I remembered your situation when I saw this link on another forum. Have you considered a working holiday visa for your gf?
