trv for relieving financial burden during school break, acceptable?

My wife and I sent an invite letter to my sister inlaw and her minor son in the Phils to visit this Christmas. One reason we stated in the invite, other then enjoying Christmas and a little winter season, was that we were hoping that a multi entry visa was given to our sister so that she can come back in our summer period to look after our children on school break, relieving us of a financial burden of using sitters during that time. Will immigration be ok with that? Having family looking after family?

Also, My sister inlaws son has no father listed on the birth certificate. He has had one application rejected and one reason was the officer was not satisfied about family ties in Canada and in your country of residence. Could this be because of no father on his birth cert? My sister inlaw has no legal documentation about custody. Thanks.

I'm not sure -- it sounds reasonable, but it might also be that CIC takes this as an admission that your visitor is going to be working in Canada. After all, they are going to be doing something that right now is done by paid labour. I think it would have been much better to not mention this at all.

I would say no, that's not a good idea to say. Your family could've hired a Canadian baby sitter instead.

Yes that could be a big reason for your sis-in law's son being rejected, no father on birth certificate, and also the mother is travelling with her son, and not remaining in the Philippines.

So basically you are saying you prefer to import a seasonal worker than paying a Canadian for that same job. Does that sound acceptable to you?

No. There are many cases in which there is only one parent in the birth certificate. The problem in here is that she is travelling with her child and she has not shown real ties to her country. She is a high risk immigrant.

Well, that's a hot topic eh? Put it that way, its not acceptable at all. The first and foremost reason for her to come back in the summer period is because we have most of our time off in the summer to enjoy some vacation time with her and showing her around. its a secondary added benefit to have someone home keeping an eye on the rug rats. When you do the math, the only real advantage is that it is your family looking after your kids. I previously had both my parent inlaws,5 years ago, for over for 5 months. I was sure I read somewhere back then that it was acceptable to have family (your wifes mother etc) come over to help child rear so, for instance, a mother can go back to work. That was awhile ago, Things change.

I think she will have a hard time, just being approved for the TRV to begin with, much less a multiple entry TRV. They also have to take into account her employment status, assets and finances, travel history, etc. I've never heard of anyone asking in a letter to CIC, for a multiple entry. If anything, she should ask for a few short weeks, and hope they will give her a multiple entry.

Like with my wife, we asked for 3 weeks, but they gave us a multiple entry for life of her passport, and also when she arrived in Vancouver, they let her stay for 6 months on first visit. Had we asked for more time initially, she would've probably had a single entry visa, had her length of stay shortened, or worse, refused a TRV.

Not all family is OK, that is why supervisa was created (one of many reason). Your parents or your partner's parents or grandparents are included. A sister/sister in law with a child doesn't fall into that category.

Starting on February 6, 2014 (00:01 EST), all visa applicants will automatically be considered for a multiple entry visa. The visa officer reviewing your application may be able to give you this type of visa even if you applied for a single entry visa.


Well, we didn't ask for a multi. But stated we hoped one was given to allow a return visit.
