Hello everyone,

Greetings to all the members, on this forum. :)

My wife, our one year old and I arrived in Canada three weeks ago, after my wife secured a job here and got a closed work permit. Currently, I have an open work permit. Both our work permit expires on May 2018.

We are trying to bring mother to stay with us for around a month, so that it would make it easy for us to settle at the new place, find a rental apartment/house to stay, find a toddler nursery or a full time baby sitter for our child, before I can start job.

My mother is employed in a bank since last 30 years, drawing reasonable salary, and has sufficient funds in her bank account. Her bank will grant her a leave sanction letter, stating her travel dates. She has also has some strong travel history, traveled to the United States last year, to Europe, to the Middle East, and few other Asian countries. She will be bearing all the travel and insurance expenses, except for lodging and food once she arrives in Canada.
She has adequate funds to meet her expenses for travel, strong ties to home country (return to job) and has travel history.

After going through the forum here, it was understood that my mother could apply for TRV, either to visit family or for tourism purposes.

Our concern here is:
Since we recently landed here, we do not have any documents from Canada, like salary slips, tax slips, bank history nor a Canadian photo id, which could be shown along submit of letter of invitation to my mother. We could show around 10000 CAD by end of this month, once my wife gets her first salary. We also have adequate proof of funds back in the bank accounts in our home country. We did not carry much amount with us during our travel to Canada.

1) Can we apply for mother’s TRV, considering that we landed in Canada only recently, and that too we are on work permit?

2) If yes, is it recommended that my mother apply for TRV stating an intention visit friends and family, when we clearly do not have a long term history of staying in Canada, nor any proof to submit?

3) The other option of TRV stating tourism purpose would require providing proof of hotel accommodation and itinerary. Is it possible to apply for tourist visa showing that mother will be staying with us? Is it recommended to apply for tourist visa, then visit and stay with us?

4) If not, is there a better solution to bring my mother for a month soon?

We really don’t want to get a visa reject, hence approaching it carefully and trying to take into account all the aspects, and plan accordingly.

Hey Jagan12...

How long ago did arrive in Canada?
We actually did the same thing back in 2013. We arrived on March 2013, but my husband had a job right from the beginning, then I got a job on June 2013. We applied for a TRV for my parents I think on Aug 2013, and they were approved and came here Sept 2013 to March 2014.
They are both retired but we have showed sufficient documents/proofs that they are not going to overstay.
They also had sufficient funds and travel history. We gave them copies of our bank statements, employment certificate, invitation letter, et al...
I think the reason/intent that we mentioned was just to visit Family and friends and to see the tourist spots here in Canada.
We provided a copy of our tenancy agreement, and that my parents were staying with us in our apartment.

Goodluck and I hope your mom gets approved....

Thank you Sparkling, for the quick reply.. I understand that you had arrived on March 2013, and applied for visa after being in Canada for around 6 months (on Aug 2013), thus being able to produce Canadian bank statements for that duration.

However, in our case, we arrived in Canada just "three weeks" back, hence we would not be able to produce any related documents from Canada, apart from a copy of our work permit. We haven't been in Canada long enough to get a bank statement or salary slips.

Could you please advise, what would be the best way to go, to get my mother to Canada, soon ?

Can you not produce a copy of your pay stubs since both of you are already working?
Make sure that your invitation letter is genuine and your mom does not have any intention to overstay.
If you could, have the invitation letter notarized, if it's not too much of a hassle on your part.
Submit all necessary documents that you deem would be helpful for her application.

Other than that, I think that's the only way to go since you have not established your stay here.

If you are not a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, it becomes hard to invite in the first place. What people with work/study permit do is that you write a letter of support for the person inviting. In your case, I will advice you let your mum apply for tourist visa for a week or so stating that she would like to visit and see place with you. She must include a itinerary of places she will visit. Your invitation letter should state your relationship with the person, your status in canada, why the person is coming to Canada, and who is paying for her trip (such as accommodation, food, round air ticket, medical etc). If you are accommodation her, state the address and if she is paying, you must include her bank statement, payslip, properties owned in where she resides, employment letter, vacation/leave letter etc (provide as much as she can).

I will also advice you that at least you should include your immigration status document, copy of lease (where your mum will stay), bank statements (from your country and Canada, if any) and provide a letter of explanation of your immigration status. Also provide a letter telling the visa officer why your mum wants to come as tourist. Take your time and prepare the application and get all the documents from your mum. You can apply online for her or let her apply using paper depending on where she resides. I hope this helps

We also want to invite our parents for 6 months stay here and we are here on WP for the past 8 months. we think we got all the documents in order, but how long do they get the visa for? we want to plan for both sets of parents and it would be a waste of time and money if the visa is given only for 6 months. do they really do 5 year multiple entry? or is it like EU or schengen - only for 6 months?

If your mom has a job and properties then her ties to her home country is strong, provide that in her application and her bank statements.
Give her a good letter of invitation and the reason for her travel is tourism, you can find somewhere in the forum some letter samples.

They can give your parents multiple entry visas which is valid depending on when their passports expire. But they are usually allowed a maximum of 6 months stay in Canada, all you got to do is apply for an extension to stay in Canada, one month prior to their 6th month.

Just curious: assuming someone has 3 years visa and allows entry for 6 months, does it mean the person doesn't have to cross the boarder and re-enter if the extension is granted? Or simply the person can avoid applying for extension and cross the boarder and re-enter?

I don't think you need to exit and re-enter after your visa has been extended.
